Apple shares crack $300 barrier

Fueled by overnight trading, Apple shares have climbed over $300 for the first time in the company's history. Prices have been rising aggressively in recent months, growing 25 percent since August alone. The leap is even more significant when compared to March 9th, 2009, a point at which the impact of global recession pushed shares down to a close of $83.11, and still lower during mid-day trading.
Apple's market capitalization isclosing on that of oil giant Exxon Mobil, currently the world leader with a rating of about $329.44 billion. The former's worth is largely being driven by the iPhone, as well as Mac sales, and the explosion of iPad sales since the tablet's April debut. Several analysts have raised their price targets for Apple stock in recent weeks, in one case toas much as $430.
The achievement is particularly important in advance of Apple's fourth-quarter financial results, which will beannounced on October 18th. The company is expected to continue showinghigh iPhoneandiPadsales.New Macs and Mac OS X 10.7may be revealed just two days later.

Apple Q2 2012 Results
The Company posted quarterly revenue of $39.2 billion and quarterly net profit of $11.6 billion, or $12.30 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $24.7 billion and net profit of $6.0 billion, or $6.40 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. […]
The Company sold 35.1 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 88 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 11.8 million iPads during the quarter, a 151 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 4 million Macs during the quarter, a 7 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 7.7 million iPods, a 15 percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter.
Decent growth for the biggest company in the world. Net profit is up 94 percent from a year ago. Not bad.
What a bummer that then iPhone 4s is such a disappointment, and the iPad 3 such a flop.... Oh right, and throughout all of this, Android is "winning", right?
Funny how quiet tezza, snpark, smuggles, and the "pundits" suddenly got...

Oh, and....
Apple just announced during its Q2 2012 earnings call that it currently has $110 billion in cash reserves, which is up from $81.5 billion in September 2011. Apple was also up in every other segment with $18.4 billion in short-term marketable securities (up from $16.1 billion) and long-term marketable securities at $81.6 billion, which is up from $55.6 billion in the previous six-month period ending September 2011.
