I used to be able to send free SMS messages to Thailand free pages on the Web.
I can no longer find a page to do this!
I have tried Sanook.com but cannot read the Thai
script. Is it still possible to send free SMS on the
Internet to Thailand from Europe?

There are a few alternatives. Most of them cumbersome because the "free" part becomes a small daily allowance that you have to earn by doing something (e.g. answer a questionaire and youget 4 credits, etc.)
The only one that I found that is really free and convenient is http://www.icq.com
After you register with icq, you have two options. One is to send the sms from their webpage, in which case you have a maximum daily limit -I am not sure how many, but I think it is more than 10 but less than 20. Or download the icq software to your PC and use their interface -in this case, I do not know if there is a limit, but if there is, it is much higher than 20.

Wouldn't accept phone number then said I had
exceeded daily allocation !!
ICQ - No C anything! Too much on the page !

Try download ICQ lite, I was able to send free sms to Bkk. Never hit a limit yet.

Pardon me for my stupidity. Can somebody explain what this is? This is what I think it is. This is a service that allows you to send instant messages to a cell phone from a PC. Do cell phones in Thailand that you buy the card (sim?) that allows you talk for a set amount of time, also do instant messages?

Steps by step process at ICQ:
1)Go to this link ICQ SMS Center
2) Login if you are already a registered user or Register first if you are not.
3) After login process becomes simple. It will become apparent what to do
The above is for sending SMS using ICQ´s own website. This is what I do when away from my own PCs (ie PCs that may not have the ICQ software already downloaded).
However, if you plan on sending SMS from the same PC often, do as Juniper suggests: download ICQ software to your own PC. The advantages are that you can already have phone numbers stored and the daily limit, if any, is very high (I haven´t found it yet).

I send ICQ SMS messages to my TGF via my PC. Which I learned from this thread. Can you send a message using ICQ SMS from a Thai mobile to email address or a ICQ account (international)? Thanks in advance.

hmmm.....
You can use your Thai mobile number to reply to sms messages sent by ICQ (in most cases, I still have that debate going with Yurune about some pre-paid numbers being able or not to send international sms).
The gateway for ICQ messages sent to Thailand I think is through Taiwan. Thus your sms basically replies as if sending an international sms.
To email? I haven't tried.
