How do you guys that travel with laptops connect to the internet? I want to be able to use my laptopn in my hotel room in BKK: some have broadband access and that is fine, but for  dial-up hotels how can i get on to the internet?  I have AOL in my laptop and even have some local access numbers for BKK  but not really sure if they will work there or not.

  any help appreciated  Thanks

if u stay 5 star they have broadband,  or stay at centrepoint.com they have broadband, 4 star.....  if not check out loxinfo.com for some temporary dialup connection....

if you are just checking mail and bullshit like that any decent hotel has a biz center with fast net access and theres about 5 trillion netcafes all over bkk...

thanks Kman.......I have used the trillions of cafe's before [I am a veteren BKK traveller]  but was hoping that I could  just bring my new laptop and stay connected from my room  without dealing with the hassles of the cafe's.  My room has broadband access at the Omni;  but I am also going to CM and Pattaya on this trip and my rooms there are probably just dial-up.  would be nice to be able to cruise for my mail and check sites like this from the comfort of my room.
thanks  Jon

I believe you can still access AOL when dialed up to a non-AOL modem. AOL will have support documents to answer this question.

How to get an outside line from your room is a question only the hotel staff can answer, but usually you just prefix your call with a "9". Hint: if you prefix it with "9," (nine comma) in you dial-up connection settings, the computer will dial 9, pause a few seconds then dial the rest of the number. Yes, you can use several commas if there is an exceptionally long lag waiting for the handover to an outside line.

Where to dial up to? You can get temporary internet access from any of a half-dozen Thai ISPs. I recommend either CSLoxinfo (get their WebNet package) or Inet (Inet-Easy). Both companies have dial-up numbers in BKK, CM and PTY and as a local call in most every other province in Thailand.

UTFSE for more thoughts on this subject because it's been covered repeatedly.
