Steve Jobs, Apple founder, dies source: CNN (CNN) -- Steve Jobs, the visionary in the black turtleneck who co-founded Apple in a Silicon Valley garage, built it into the world's leading tech company and led a mobile-computing revolution with wildly popular devices such as the iPhone, died Wednesday. He was 56. The hard-driving executive pioneered the concept of the personal computer and of navigating them by clicking onscreen images with a mouse. In more recent years, he introduced the iPod portable music player, the iPhone and the iPad tablet -- all of which changed how we consume content in the digital age. More than one pundit, praising Jobs' ability to transform entire industries with his inventions, called him a modern-day Leonardo Da Vinci.... (more)

I just found out myself. Truly a sad day. “Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” - Steve Jobs

"There may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."

There were very few CEOs with his marketing karisma, and it showed in Apple's success, having brought Apple back from the dead 2 different times in the past when he chose to step down, then with stockholders interests in mind he took over as CEO again so Apple wouldn't die. Now one has to seriously ask, who is there to take over when Apple falls again? He will seriously be missed, and was truly the reason behind Apple's success, as was shown on 2 different occasions in the past. To say that there is never just one person responsible for a companies success is true is most cases, but Apple was one of those few exceptions, as Jobs showed. It was one man that was solely responsible for Apple's huge success, and now he is gone. There is no longer Steve Jobs to lift Apple out of the next downturn in the company, and add that karismatic spark he was so good at igniting in the consumer. That is now gone. There were very very few like him in the history of business, and to try to think of one person still alive that has his tact, and karisma is almost impossible. Here are some of his most memorable presentations, and lets you know that there will now never be anyone stockholders can bank on to take Apple into the future. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/cody/2011/10/06/steve-jobs-10-best-presentations-of-all-time

From David Pogue, the cycle of reaction to Apple's products. So true. Phase 1: Steve Jobs takes the stage to introduce a new product. Phase 2: The tech bloggers savage it. (“The iPad has no mouse, no keyboard, no GPS, no USB, no card slot, no camera, no Flash!? It’s dead on arrival!”) Phase 3: The product comes out, the public goes nuts for it, the naysayers seem to disappear into the earth. Phase 4: The rest of the industry leaps into high gear trying to do just what Apple did.
