Nope, no Android 4.0 updates for Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab owners. Ditto with Motorola and HTC. Only Sony's Experia owners are in luck - they all get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade (kudos to Sony, for once).

But, hey, glad it's "open", right?

It Looks Like Samsung's 'Value Pack' Update For Galaxy S Phones Won't Happen

After rumors out of Korea stated that Samsung Galaxy S owners may get a "value pack" of updates instead of the full version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Samsung is still being vague about its plans.
After waiting for several days for official word from Samsung HQ on the rumors, here's what the company has to say:

A full update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the GALAXY Tab(7-inch) and GALAXY S is not practicable due to hardware limitations.

Samsung wouldn't comment beyond that prepared statement, so we're still left wondering: If the "full update" to Ice Cream Sandwich isn't coming, then is the rumored value pack with extra features coming instead? The company is leaving that question wide open. Based on Samsung's record updating its Android devices, we're not holding our breath.

One thing we are sure of is Galaxy S phones, which include several phone models sold in 2010 and much of 2011, will be permanently stuck on the year old version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

It's still important to note that Samsung will upgrade the Galaxy S II to Ice Cream Sandwich this year. But that could still take several months since the company has to work on a new version of its TouchWiz skin.

Again, this brings up the big problem we wrote about a few weeks ago when it first came out that Samsung wouldn't be upgrading its Galaxy S phones. The Galaxy S was an insanely popular phone, with more than 10 million people buying it worldwide. Now Samsung is screwing those users out of updates that they had every reason to expect they'd get.

To be fair, Samsung isn't the only offender in this. With a few exceptions on certain models, HTC, Motorola, and LG won't say whether or not they plan on upgrading many of the phones released in 2011. Unless you bought one of the premium phones from those manufacturers during the end of 2011, you probably won't get the Ice Cream Sandwich update. Kudos to Ericsson though for being clear on its update schedule. It plans to bring Ice Cream Sandwich to all of its Xperia phones released last year.

Obviously - undoubtedly, it *may* become an issue once Android 5 comes out the gate. I see no reason why Samsung will change their policy of orphaning every model beyond the current model.
