When I was in Chiang-Mai, there was an internet shop with 256kbit.  But I'm interested in internet within Bangkok?  Can I get fast eternet in relatively reasonable prices.

Right now I'm getting 1500kbit download and 96kbit upload for $100/mo, is there anything even remotely like this in Thailand?  Or is thailand still stuck in the modem era?

I did a quick search on the web and found this site.  It advertises broadband.  http://www.inet.co.th/

As far as I know you can get both ISDN (64k or 128k) from Internet Thailand and cable access from Telecom Asia.  Maybe others as well, not sure.   The price for the ISDN seems not so bad.. 14baht/hour for off peak.  Don't know much more about that.  Cable is more expensive (I think around $100/month but you need to check).   I would personally go with cable.

Not sure if both the above services are available in all areas of BKK though....

And, another note:  I usually stay at the Centrepoint Apartments when I'm there and they have very fast (usually internet).  Not sure what it is but I was quite happy with it compared to other service I had in BKK..

Maybe its the serviced apartments I've always stayed at, but I've never had a file download faster than 12k/second... in the US I'd sometimes get 384k/sec...  obviously a slower rate and less quality of service should be expected in LOS, but it's rather sad, from what I've encountered...
And Im on dedicated SDSL, which is supposed to be better than ADSL

zzzZ,

Thanks for the tips.  I will be relocating to LOS next year and you gave me a few more choices to explore.  I also understand that Pacific Internet offers broadband in Thailand.

I've had so called "fast" internet in chiang-mai, but that's not my point.

I deal with audio/video in my job, that means transfering GIGABYTES of data daily, I'm just wondering if that's even possible.

Web access at even 64kbit can be ok, but when you start dealing with large video files, you're in trouble if you don't have at least a 512kbit going at max speed (around 64kbyte/sec)

Also depends very much on your location - quality of infrastructure, if the operators have rights in that area etc ... you have to check with a local local and then the ISPs who service that area

Highly recommended. Very good place, especially the ones on Petchaburi 15. As far as I can tell, they have an actual broadband connection, as I was regularly getting download speeds in excess of 200k.

What's the reliability of the network like there? I was thinking of doing a little business from remote, and holing up there during the day. On Suk, probably.

Speed is important, but irrelevant if the connection is down all the time.
