I am going to LOS late Sept. for two weeks. First time for me. Does anyone have a hotel recomondation to get an internet hookup? I suppose there is no such thing as a high speed connection. So far I have reservations at the Majestic.
Can someone tell me about the internet cafes? Charges, equipment, locations etc. Thanks

Internet cafes all over. ÝFurther up Sukhumvit you go, cheaper (away from Nana Plaza). ÝI use one of the ones at Ambasador Plaza (Smile), in front of Ambasador hotel, between sukhumvit 11 and 13. ÝThink it's about 1 baht per minute, maybe even 0.85 baht/minute. ÝConnections ok. ÝWindows based OS, but don't know which one. ÝOne thing I did notice - no usb connection on front of computer (for your flash drive). ÝDo have floppy drives.
Other option, if you are travelling with a notebook, you can buy an internet dialup card at any 7-11 or the like. ÝHave to configure your settings, but instructions are included on the card. ÝThink it's about 150 baht for 15 hours; you also have to pay for the local call from your hotel; think it was 5 baht per call. ÝCard good for a year or some such. ÝHave used, not too many disconnections.
I use both; internet cafe for personal e-mail, web surfing; notebook for secure link (never know when somebody's installed a keylogger on that public terminal).

There are some hotels that offer internet connections in your room, usually for an extra fee. Several internet cafes on Suk. Not sure about near the Majestic, but there are 2 in the Times Square Building at the Sheraton. This is right near the BTS Asoke stop.
Most cafes charge from 1-3 baht per minute. But sometimes you have to pay a small membership fee to get a decent rate.

I stayed at Le Royal Meridien (about 5000 baht a night, high season). The room came with a PC and an Internet connection. Had to pay seperately for the use of internet though.

The Conrad has free broadband wireless internet in all public areas, bar, restaurant, pool, executive lounge etc. Ýcompletely free if you have a laptop and wi-fi card.
Executive rooms have one hour of free internt access a day in the exec lounge.
Broadband connection in rooms, via ethernet cost approximately $12 per 24 hours.

loxinfo card about ten baht per minute - nothing to install really can buy at any 7-11 use it as a local call from your hotel phone
President Park has high speed internet but the little feller needs to install the thing on your laptop - if you stay there see if you can get it included in the price during your negotiation of rates...

it's on soi 24 - a little far out but i liked the location
yes girl friendly
if you need to be closer try talking to the rest of the presidents (royal/grand/solitare etc.) that are closer to the great pussy river
