Hey guys, I have a question. On email accounts, why is there an option to mark the message as "unread"? I don't get it unless its to be able to read your girlfriend's new emails and then mark it back as new. Either that or some other sort of deception. "What message? I never got it, see...Oh, I guess I did get it, I just never opened it, oops...Sorry." Help me out guys. TD

It depends on the mail reader. Most will display unread mail differently (bold for example). In some cases, you can choose not view messages already read (even though they are stored on your disk) using the "Hide read messages" option. This is more useful for newsgroups than regular mail. The only thing the sender knows about whether you read the mail is if they sent the mail with return receipt requested. On most mail readers, you can prevent return receipts from being sent (or be prompted for each one) even if you read the mail.
