Can I buy a pre-paid card to use on my mobile for local phone calls?  I assume this is cheaper than making calls from the hotel.

vertigo,

Yes you can buy a prepaid card if you have a gsm handset. I bought mine in the MBK plaza. Refills are available all over Bangkok including most 7-11s. And yes, they are definitely much cheaper than using the hotel phone.

Pinga,

You are right. That's what I had paid for mine about four months ago. I usually buy the Bt 300 and Bt 500 refills. There may be higher values also available.

Any place nearer to JW Marriot, Sukumvit, where i can get a prepaid mobile phone card.

If not any specific shop in MBK. I have always had problems communicating (English) with the shop personnel in MBK Electronic shops and in the past I hardly got any thing done there (Excepting Tokyu?)

Can I make international calls using the Pre Paid Mobile Cards.

Last time in Sept 02 I rented a phone from DTAC at the airport with a sim card in it. But I could make calls with in Thailand only and not out side.

Any suggestion which card to buy Orange? 123?

i was told by several TGs, and i dont know the reason, that 12call/AIS is the best....  shrug.... it's what i use and i have maybe 1 dropped call every other month...

I started using DTAC and am quite happy with it.   It doesn't expire quite as quickly as AIS if you don't recharge it (ie. if you come to LOS on a regular basis but sometimes have more than a month between visits).

I believe it is 5 baht a minute flat.

Nothing easier then to buy a Prepaid SIM - cheapest place in Thailand fpor that is MBK (http://www.mbk-center.com)

see for some details on tariffs (not a complete list though but the major players) :

One-2-Call

(i know, they don't have a link to the english site from the start site - kinda user unfriendly)
