Not according to the Thai (Farang is a Thai word which is vague in that it encompasses Western foreigners). These would most often be "Kon Kaek" and "Kon Negro" respectively, with all due respect.

Farang ( Falung) is somewhat reserved for westerners,,, it helps if you think as my Thai wife says,,, means like led ( red) hair and blue eyes. Cheers

I read and also was told that the word 'Farang' or 'Falang', strictly meaning foreigner ( of European descent ), dates back to the times when the French were first here in Siam and eventually in force. This was at the time when Ayuthaya was the capital city of the Kingdom. I think they were called Falangset. ( ? )... or so the account informed me. But it could be completely untrue, although the deportation of the French contingent is historical fact. An influential Greek, Constantine Phaulkon managed to access the circles of political power in Siam under the monarch at the time, King Narai, who reigned from 1675 to 1688. Phaulkon, for various reasons of political power and trade security managed to exclude the Dutch and English attempts at entry to the Kingdom and allowed the French to station themselves next to the Royal Court. The presence of 600 heavily armed French troops near to the Royal Court was in time felt to be a bit intimidating and so they were all flung out of the country, troops, merchants and diplomats and the Greek man was executed, presumably because a threat to the monarchy ( real or unreal ) had been discovered. But then, you only have to look at the history of Laos and Vietnam to see that maybe they were wiser than we give them credit for. In the course of my communications with Thais, I also have understood that the term Falang is not applied to African, Chinese, Japanese, Indian or Arab people. The settlement on its meaning was presumably made those centuries ago.................and so the Thais have a bit of difficulty in describing Afro-Americans, because they are American and speak English but are black in colour ( brown ? ), and also various other sections of the human race who happen to live in 'Western Countries' but whose ancestors clearly have not been European. I think one of the other posters here had it right in as much as it is purely a colour classification for most segments of Thai society, lumping all 'whites' a falang and all 'blacks' as mentioned by seajohn. But then their difficulty arises when confronted with all the gradations of colour that global movement presents to them now-a-days. Personally, I am a milky-tea colour with the occasional splash of strawberry. Does anyone know the Thai colour classsification for me ? For those of you desperately seeking information on the grace hotel massage potential, I apologise for using the same. Let others more informed, continue to post. I have not partaken of the fruits there..................

Many thanks to all, this forum is educational sometimes. I always thought farang was simply a 'foreinger' but clearly it is not quite so simple. This also explains why thais are confused when I can them 'farangs' when they visit the UK!! Getting back to the 'Grace' I think it can be stated quite safely that there are a lot of arab customers frequenting the place which explains why the ladies are of a somewhat 'fuller figure' than your usual massage joint. I wish to avoid the 'fat girls need lovin too' phrase but suffice to say that a good attitude mixed with a fuller figured lady can add up to a great time!! alba

Sorry guys, Somehow just can't find it. There is a kind of barber/massage salon on the outside (soi 3 side), next to the pedicure. Is this the Massage parlour or do you realy have to go inside the Hotel? Is it part of the Hotel-operation. Left after entrance? Big stairs? Opening hours ? Thnx in adv.

The massage parlour is inside the hotel. Enter hotel walk straight and turn right. You will see a wheelchair ramp and some stairs. Go up and look for a spiral staircase on your left hand side. The stairs lead only downstairs. This leads straight to the massage parlour. Its an unusual pace for sure, unlike any other masssage joint I have been to in Bangkok. You will either love it (like me) or run away (fast!). I am in my 40's now and no one like screwing young, slim and sexy Thai girls more than me. Sometimes though something a bit different is good and 'Grace' is 'different'. I believe it is open 24 hours. I can't confirm this but it was open at 6.30AM of my last visit. Enjoy!!!
