just wondering if farang are allowed to own land in thailand.someone I know was offered some land from a tg.she had received it from the goverment and didnt want it.sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Anyone given land by the Government recently?
Sounds like she has not got the right Chanote for it to be able to sell it to you.
Buy at your peril, land the government gives to farmers to work can be taken back again, especially if not worked. In fact they do not really give, they recognise the rights of those who occupy it to, well, occupy it. Some of this land is not transferrable.
Be very careful before you part with any money. In addition you will need some trickery to "own" it which may be more hassle than it is worth.

It is still not legally possible to own land in thailand as a foreigner, there are certain ways that foreign companies can buy land for development of factories and such, but strict regulations apply. The Thailand Joke (Elite) Card does not (as some have stated) allow you to buy land either, the land that you can use with it will be registered in the name of the elite card company and you get a usage right but that's it. I would be VERY careful before spending one satang in deals like that.

Pay enough Baht, no matter what type of speculative land to lawyers and you can own it as the paper trail flys into governmental anexation.
If you become corporation it ensures that some other Thais will get $$$$ out of it when liquidation/sales occurs. Namely Thai P4P BG's.... he he he PT BArnum was right a SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE * )
