Gentlemen

I'm about to apply for my non-immigrant b visa which, I understand, I'll need to have before my office in Bangkok can apply for a work permit and extension.

A question for you. If I have that visa, will I be ok entering Thailand on a one-way ticket, or do I still need either a return or an onward flight?

Thanks guys

I believe you should be fine entering LOS with a one way ticket.

A god website to answer other potential questions is www.thaivisa.com

To save any problems I have always got a 1 year open ticket, then if I need to go back to the uk I get a return ticket here. I do get asked evert time at Heathrow if I have a visa and why I have an open ticket etc etc. but never been refused so far.

only tourists and transit visas need to have ongoing flight or transit plans

I hear they don't even hassle those that don't have return trip tickets, but it could depend on what Kuntry you Cum from

non-Immigrant visa means you're going to be staying for a while, so no need for a return/exit ticket.

You should however carry a copy of your company's sponsorship letter with you when going thru Immigration on entry, just to quelch any questions.

and http://www.ThaiVisa.com, mentioned above, has lots of good info.

With the new visa regulations (since July 2003) now there is only teh need for a return or onward ticket for people who arrice on a 30 day permit (technically still seen as transit visa). With a tourist Visa or Non Immigrant Visa it is enough to show enough funds to ensure you are able to leave the country. At least that is what the Immigration tells you, if it is really changed in the laws, no idea.

So far I have heard not a single case where a foreigner was asked to produce a ticket or show funds upon arrival though (unless you are from one of certain african countries like Nigeria, Liberia, Cameroon,...). With a valid Non Immigrant B Visa you can then apply for a work permit or a one year extension. Currently the Immigration HQ at Suan Pluh is installing a new computerized system so it could take logner then usual for a work permit or one year extension to be issued. I waited 5 months (from febuary to july) for my Permanent Resident Status (Alien Registration Book and stuff) at teh bargain price of close to 100,000 Baht. If you are not married, it is 200,000 or very close to that.

As bestmate said http://www.thaivisa.com is the best source for up to date Visa information (and other Information)

cheers
