wondering whether forum bros have any information/advice on this??
I am a qualified English teacher but also a bit of a jack of all trades, partly qualified electrcian and I know my way around a construction site (plastering, tiling etc - thanks mainly to student loans)...
Are there the opportunities to use these skills to supplement an English Teaching post in Thailand? or is this kind of work protected for the Thai nationals themselves? are there any other jobs I could consider?
I know I can make a few extra baht with private tuition part time but would like to explore other avenues as well.
Any info appreciated...

english teaching is already a very humble profession in bkk.
how much do you want to make on a bkk construction site. well, devide it by 100 and then you might be able to compete salary wise...

I wasn't thinking of a career in construction, more along the lines of part time work for the old boys' network, expats etc...

You need a Work Permit to do any work - without it you are absolutely illegal. Work Permits are generally granted only when there are no Thais available to do the same work. English teachers, journalists, and some representatives of foreign companies, working under strict hiring guidelines, are areas notably open to foreigners.
You would probably not want to compete with locals, with or without Permit, given the meager wages that they make.
While you may be well qualified to teach in your country, you should check out qualifications needed/desired for teaching English in LOS before going.

Hi Homer,
Thailand has many electricians who will work for a lot less than you and I don’t think qualifications come into the equation.

You could consider private tuition. I know a guy who makes about 30-40 K in addition to his teacher's salary.
