Hi everyone

I recently came into some money and am going to take the next few years off just chilling in Thailand and maybe dabbling a little in online trading etc (nothing major).

Anyway, I was planning on doing a visa run every 30 days, but have learned that you can now only do this 3 times. I have been looking around, and it seems the "one year multi entry visa" could be the one, except it has the cash requirements up front - I will be able to support myself comfortably for the time I'll be there, but can only "drip feed" money, rather than bring enough to last for 2 years up front.

What do you suggest I do? Is there a certain type of VISA I should apply for? Are there reputable and trustworthy companies that can handle it for me?

Any help appreciated - thanks!

Doily, I don't know where you are based but if it is the UK you can apply for an O type multi entry visa which gives you 90 days on entry and then you can nip over the border and renew, this lasts a year from date of issue. You can get these from any Thai consulate in UK, friends of mine have used the one in Hull and had no problems.

As for showing means of support all you have to do is sign their "Self certification guarantee". Only problem with this is you have to return home to get another at the end of the year. The website is http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/ you can apply in person and have the visa in 30 mins or by post which will take up to seven days.

Even if you are not in the UK the rules should be the same

Hey there, thanks alot. Unfortunately I live in New Zealand, and out of all the different countries Thai Embassy websites I have looked at, our conditions seem the toughest! (which is strange considering they are all meant to be equal).

You can check out the NZ one here - http://www.thaiembassynz.org.nz/TRAVELLERS.htm

If you have a lawyer in NZ, ask them to refer you to a firm in LOS that can handle this. It may cost more but it should get all your requirements handled properly. IMO, better to spend a little more to get it done right and then you have no worries or problems while you are in LOS.

You can also check out Bangkok Post website and go to classifieds where they have plenty of Visa ads that should be able to give you info. Don't know about their reliability but it should get some answers for you.

The standard solution posted to the net is to use your three visa exemptions (90 days), then get a multiple entry tourist visa (good for 3 months), then repeat the whole process again.

Look Here

and next time UTFSE...

BTW: NZ is no harder than the US, UK, or Austrailia

1) a multiple entry tourist visa is not valid for 3 months... it can be used for 6 months.

(2 x 2 months + 2 extensions)

However, popular embassies in Asia have decided not to provide these tourist visas.

As far as I know there are no financial requirements for a multi entry non-B or O.

Just get the right supporting papers.

when applying for a O-A retirement visa inside LOS I know if no monthly income you have to show 800,000bt in a thai bank, question I have is do you need to maintain that amount after the visa is approved? is it something immigration looks at when you do your 90 day reporting (checked search)

Just be able to show it when you report, as far as I know. Either that, or I believe, at least a 50,000 baht per month income. May be wrong, but I think that's what it was......
For the O visa or the retirement or residency (R?) visa (they're different I believe). You might have to check a visa site.

Somehow, the New Zealand Embassy has, in my experience of arranging for people to come over here to work, proved to be the toughest.

Whilst Embassies pratcically all around the world interpret the regulations and new requirements differently from each other in the finer details, the New Zealand Thai Embassy staff always seem to be either the most restrictive or downright unhelpful, to the point where a New Zealander, with all the right papers and documents and degrees and experience will still be turned away at their door.

Even Thai Consulates around the United States differ. It all depends on how the regulations and rules are read and applied by the resident team of Consulate or Embassy staff.

It may also have a little to do with the fact that directives and new regulations or hastily drawn-up revisions of rules and-or exceptions sent out from Bangkok Ministries to their Ambassadors around the world might not be too clear or precise in every respect.
