This is for all the expats and people who really know their bkk 
Im off to Bkk for the 3rd time in 18months, and ive pretty much done the whole Khao san/Pat pong thing, and i was hoping for some information/help on what next?
Im a 20yr old sociology student from London, and i just want to see all the really crazy stuff that happens in Bkk, not so much for participation (well... ) but more for just seeing it and being able to use it at uni.. (writing essays on sex tourism for a degree? slightly more fun than my friends doing physics)
Is there anyone who could help me out/show me round/give me any advise?? it would be much appreciated
Im leaving in a few days... 31st of July- about the 8th of August... (im off travelling thru China, N. Korea etc etc) so not long, but any help would be great.

Full grant JJ?? haha... right now i get £2,800 for a year, which is a loan with interest charged at inflation, with that ive gotta pay for uni fees, accomadation, living etc etc... maybe the 14p ive got saved up from the last year would get me a smile in Phuket? lol
anyways, yeah, any help from any1 would be great, otherwise its more cheesy khao san road time...

1. You're 20. That means that you and I really have almost nothing as a basis for communication (I'm 52).
2. You're a SOCIOLOGY student? GAWD!
3. Three trips to Thailand and you reckon you've done the "whole" Patpong thing eh? Sorry but you sound a trifle superficial. We'll leave Khao San Rd out of it for the sake of simplicity.
4. Essays about sex tourism? Do you regard yourself as a sex tourist? Or as a social scientist peering through the fishbowl at those OTHER sex tourists?
5. "All those crazy things in Thailand" Well, I dispute that Thailand is very crazy, esp after you get through your tour of NORTH KOREA? You wouldn't happen to be a Stalinist would you? If you think Thailand is crazier than N.Korea, son, then I really think your head is not only screwed on wrong but the threads don't even match.
Tell you the truth, lad, the part of the Thai nightlife that deals with non-Thais is tiny and the part of that which deals with Europeans/Westerners is even smaller. The Thais like to pretend this isn't so, but it IS.
The vast majority of the women employed on that NICHE of Thailand nightlife are basically self employed and entreprenurial. They are not indentured, they are not enslaved, and by and large they are not abused by the management of the bars and massage parlors etc, or at least, no more so than, say, Thai office workers are 'abused' by the hierarchical, paternalistic labor/management ethic in Thailand.
While Thailand has the reputation of being the Sex and Sin capital of the world I can assure you that it is not, except as the boring vanilla f_ck & suck capital of the world. There isn't a lot of kink here. Shows? You've seen one sex show (in Asia) and you've seen them all, Taiwan, Thailand, all the same. Darts, bananas, razor blades, blah. The shows are a retirement plan for the girls, get it?
The thing that makes Thailand's working girls so special is their LACK of the hardness that is typical of prostitutes in the West. This is to be celebrated not studied, dissected, analyzed or commented upon in the manner of "social scientists". And most certainly, these ladies are not to be saved from themselves. This is not a social problem, at least in our niche. For many of these women it is instead a social salvation, an escape from the grinding poverty of rural Thailand or the slums of the big cities. It is a way out and up. God forbid that do-gooders and mouthers of politically correct platitudes should ever take this escape route away from them.
In short, kid, I suspect you have your head way up your ass.

I've been saying the same for years and I defy anyone to refute this with fact!
Why has this got you so pissed off OEJ? And what did I do to deserve abuse? Am I too "opinuated"? I don't even know how to opinuate!! I'm really struggling, out of consideration to BK, to not use the only two words that come to mind for you OEJ...but I will just shout at my monitor instead.
