Gents,
I'm looking at an opportunity to purchase a business in LOS. It's gonna set me back around 100K US, but the business side looks pretty good, both in stability and cash flow, and it comes with a work permit.
The biggest risk factor is: I would enter this venture with TG-USA. She would be on location and run the business on a day to day basis. I would be there 5 months of the year to supervise. Obviously there is opportunity for 'creative cash flow' in my absence, but I think it can be structured to minimize my exposure.
Anyone been down this road before? Anyone wanna call me a jackass? Lemme have it...
FYI: TG-USA is not a bar girl, she doesn't drink, she hates gambling, she thinks her family is a bunch of losers and after her mother dies she is cutting them off, though she loves getting a lot of attention from men she is not into sex (though she provides me weekly service  , she owns property in California and Bangkok which exceeds my personal net worth, but does not have the free cash to support this venture, she has a burning desire to be in the type business in question, and has business connections in the locale.

From your response, I'm not convinced that more info will enable you to give an intelligent response, but what the heck? Here's some answers:
• No property ownership involved in this venture
• She is "property rich" not "liquid asset" rich - also newly unemployed
• Restaurant with primo location
• She acquired the bulk of her wealth from the California divorce court
She is not my wife, and will not become my wife for the aforementioned reason...

I would suggest that you purchase a share of her property in the USA to provide her with some liquid assets so that both of you are contributing significant capital into the Thai business. I would recommend this regardless of whether the business is in Thailand or the USA.

I almost can not believe you are even considering it - given the outlines you provide here. And I am not saying this in any hostile tone whatsoever. Not even saying that such a setup with someone is bad just because they are from Los. There are indeed good and honest people in Thailand as well. But they "can be" a bit difficult to locate at times!
It is a tremendous risk you are contemplating. Take it from me - I do business in Thailand and at a rather high level including researchers at universities etc. STILL I run into problems that have to solved constantly. And I have 32 years experience in the nation to lean back on. STILL I feel very insecure at times. The reason I am managing it is because I have top people I can trust - and in turn I doublecheck also them....
You know what a loan is? Of course. If you give someone a credit you should only do so if you know in your heart that you will not be bothered if you never see that amount again. Dont game or lend money - more than you can afford to loose that is!
I think this is on the same level. If you really want a one year friendship with a girl make you put up 100K usd into a market which is considered very difficult - even by experienced experts - and also let her run it, well I am sorry to say that you should not be surprised if in a years time that dough is lost big time.
Another thing about businesses: unless it is big enough so you can hire a top CEO - YOU need to be there to sort out every little problem that pops up - and believe me they will! Many people think business is easy and something you can just start any day and run like a selfplaying piano. Trust me: that is false! Very very untrue. Costs are always higher than you expect. Incomes the first couple of years are almost always lower than you thought they would be. And there are CONSTANT things popping up that need to be attended EVERY day! Even in a small business - and especially if it comes to an operation that involves direct contact with customers, such as a bar or restaurant.
I could go on and on. I know some about business - but will never be fully experienced! I think I know most of the stuff I need to be able to handle in Europe. In Thailand I many times feel like a newbie - because it is so DIFFERENT mate! And you are always a foreigner who can never own a business 100%!
Dont get carried away. Feel free to pm me for any advice I may be able to forward. Or other experienced bro here. Check, check and check again the business you plan to buy. A good way is to asign a law firm and also a private dick to do some heavy background checking. TPEII who you can find here on the board is for instance one such service and I believe they can find the truth about for instance people running a shop. He could probably also do a background check on the girl you are planning for a partner. Those dollars spent may save you both headaches and your account!
Unless you are prepared to throw 100 K usd away - and perhaps you are and it is your money you can do anything you want with - listen to peoples various experiences here and elsewhere - and do NOT let her run the business you consider buying! That is a disaster waiting to happen. If you still decide to go ahead: please post here in a year and give us a report how it worked out!
