I`ve done a search and not found anything in the forum on this...
I`m considering enrolling on one of these courses, has any one got any suggestions, stories, info, good web sites regarding this?
Anyone done this can advise me on the pit falls?

If text and talk is the School by the temple a friend has just done a TEFL and was most impressed.
If you want to teach anywhere in the World do a CELTA.
Just Thailand then either a TESOL or TEFL will be fine.
If you have a degree in any subject so much the better !

My friend got a grade A1 pass and really enjoyed the experience. Even became friends with his tutor. He tried the CELTA in London but to do that in a month you must be totally focused. He had a lot of other things on his plate and so was not successful. No problem with text and talk though. He is now teaching in LOS and seems very happy. Quite a change of career for him too !

IMHO, if you're not native speaker, it's almost worthless to get a TEFL or any other certification.
They simply don't like non-native speakers in LOS!

I don't recall natives wearing trousers (US English 'pants') ? Usually a loin cloth or nothing at all.

I run a TEFL course in Phuket so I feel reasonably qualified to discuss this matter.
The Thai Ministry of Education (to their credit) are trying to clamp down on "holidaying" English teachers here in Thailand. They are now requiring a Bachelor degree as a minimum level of education and are trying to make sure the teachers have received some training in Thai Culture before they begin teaching. Sadly, some so-called "teachers" come to Thailand using teaching as a means to live here, not because they are genuinely interested in educating Thais in the correct use of English. This small minority think nothing of wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts in school classrooms and even smoking in front of students. Consequently they have given the rest of the committed, serious English teachers a very bad name.
So my advice is not to consider teaching English here unless you are serious about it as a career, not as an opportunity to stay here so you can spend your free time hanging around bars or lying on the beach.
