I was stationed in Thailand in the late 60's and early 70's and enjoyed it very much, I am now retired on a fixed income and am considreing moving to Bangkok. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the cost of living, the up and downside of life in Thailand and the possible pitfalls involved. I do not drink but I certainly enjoy the ladies. Any help from members will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you bkkz and seubeu for your information, I have been under the weather and haven't done much on the computer for the last week so I have been slow to reply. I am having trouble finding the sites for the Expat Exchange and for the Pattaya Expats Club. Can anyone give me any assistance?

I'm retired on 2K per month. The cost of living here is alot less then Philadelphia. The cost of a very nice apartment is less then $500. per month including electric, water etc. Bangkok is expensive compared to Pattaya, Phuket. I still live in the US but I've been to Thailand 6 times in the last couple of years and each time I'm there I figure out I could live like a minor king on my pension. Have you been back since the 60's and 70's. If I could I would move to Thailand in a NY minute.

Have a look at Hua Hin , alot of people retire there.
Alot cheaper for apartments , a little sleepy in the off season , but it is a nice town ,beach is ok ,food is ok .
Not big on the Girl scene but they are there.
Local expat paper run by Colin , "the Hua Hin observer'
Visa's taken care of really well.
Good crowd of expats and excellent Golf courses.
See Bernie in "Bernies Bar" he'll take care of you.
For what its worth I like it and enjoy it when I visit.

I agree with Mistress Gaow
I know some of the retired people living there in Hua_hin. And I have been visit them a lot of times. I like it because it's very calm small town. After a few day's you recognize your neighbours and the people working in the shops. But if u had been living in a big city all ur life maybe it's nothing for you.
And in Bernies u can see the most from the premair leauge. I bet he gonna be busy now when the world champion in soccer starting in Japan and Korea.
Anyway you have to go there and look by your self and then decide where to settle down.
I wish you good luck in finding a place.
