I used to drink with a very switched on Thai girl in Nana of all places.
She advised me never to live in LOS all the time. Come for a holiday, live in LOS for 3-4 months. But never permanently as all the Farangs she knew who do - have all gone a bit 'ding-dong' !
How right is she ?

No, she's abolutely right. You'd have to be a bit ding dong rubbing along with Thais all the time.
Still, what's the alternative? A sane existence alongside all those sane folks back home. I think I prefer to stay out of my tiny cotton-pickin' mind right where I am, but this judgment is wholly irrational and should be disregarded.
I mean, c'mon. 9 to 5. Commuting every day. PC propaganda. Funding that pension plan. You KNOW it makes sense.

I will volunteer. I am t minus about 300 days before living there. As all will agree I am a very well balanced guy, with 58 trips under my belt. (but no long stays) I have tried to imagine how I will keep it together there. And not run wild. And will see if its all true!

Yes, long term life in Thailand has a dramatic affect on you. Some reasons why I know after 4 years in Thailand without leaving:
1) I haven't used toilet paper to wipe my ass for 3 years
2) I don't notice the "smell" anymore
3) I shower 3-4 times daily
4) I just eat things first and ask what it is after
5) While driving I see nothing wrong with cutting people off
6) I have no desire for "fast food"
7) I don't mind the little red ants all over in my home
8) I don't consider a mild case of food posioning as "being sick"
9) For most things, I don't see anything wrong with being late
10) I see nothing wrong with cheating on my wife
Just some of the things that came to mind. There are hundreds upon thousands of other reasons I know it has an affect on you.
