With immediate turn around you receive a visa on arrival, good for thirty days and free. For ninety days you will have to go to a consulate who might do it in a day but it is usually is an overnight stay, cost 2,000 Baht single entry more for multiple. Have nice trip.

Works kind of that way... to be precise: 1 - Get exit stamp... overstay THB 200 per day 2 - Walk across the road to get Cambodian visa (THB 1000) 3 - Enter Cambodia about 200 meters up the road (100 baht service fee) 4 - Walk across the road to get a exit stamp 5 - Walk back and get your new 90 days stamp. Although I don't see the reason to spend over THB 4,000 two ways for a taxi. Perhaps our transport expert Krypto can do it cheaper on a Saturday or Sunday. I think a van is THB 2,500 for a whole day (incl. gasoline) to rent (from other sources). Can bring 9 girls with you.... Ooooh!

Dr. Love, Question point five... Is it the case that if say you have your kids birth certificates and marriage license (Thai), on your return to Thailand having gone through points 1-4 that you can obtain a ninety day visa on arrival just as you would for a thirty day visa at the Petchburi crossing? And if so, what does it cost. Thanks

No. If you arrive at the border with no visa, you will get only 30 days even if you have birth certificates or the likes. Visa must be applied at an embassy/consulate abroad. There are only 30 days VOAs. You could, however, try at the immigration at Suan Phlu if you have a TW and TKs....

Unless it has changed recently there was no need to obtian a Cambodian visa to get stamped back in for 30 days. Essentially the casinos are in an unofficial no mans land and the Cambodians do not officially let you in to Cambodia, saving the visa fee which you can then splurge on the tables. However to control border immigration the Thais need to stamp all passports in and out unless you have a Border Pass (which the locals have). Hence 3 steps in, quick turn, come back is OK. (Or at least it was)

Don't think so... that the casinos are between the visa application booth and the offical entry gate has nothing to do with the fact you have to come from another country to be allowed into Thailand again. If it was true, the same would apply to a visa run to Malaysia as there is a stretch of 'no-man's land' between the exit and entry points... Even the guys at the left side (on the bridge) check sometimes for a Cambodian exit stamp before they let you go to the Thai entry point.

DL, Never happened to me but there is always a first time.... I have been to Arunyapathet about 6 or 7 times over the years for friends to get new visas (I have a Class B Non-Imm Multi Entry with annual renewal). Only once did I get a Cambodian visa because I wanted to explore that part of Cambodia. (Not over impressed) Logically you would be right but the casino owners have tremendous "influence" and a 1,000 Baht donation to Cambodia by every customer would hurt their trade. Hence the practice in the past that a Cambodian visa was not required.

Dpulse, It is hard to describe unless you have been to Poipet / Arunyapathet. The Friendship market on the Thai is for Thai manufactured goods and Cambodian textiles and produce. It is vast and smelly and populated by scrofulous beggars. the border point has a wide central lane where overloaded 13th century carts with solid wooden wheels are manhandled across by gangs of sweating smelly Cambodians. The casinos are OK but not up to the standard of say Macau. Poipet is an arsehole of a place, or at least it was. The only saving grace I found was Anchor and Tiger in large cans was cheap. A taxi ride to Phnom Penh from here is about 1,000 Baht. I have never taken to Cambodia though some do. I find Laos more to my taste, like Thailand is supposed to be but is not.
