So, perhaps you get my drift.... stay out of areas where lots of Africans and Indians live...
BTW I overstayed one day for many times (12 hours) and was always charged THB 200 at Poi Pet.

Phil, 7 days in jail for one day overstay concludes:
"I've never forgiven Thailand for what it did. The mental scars have never healed. 7 years later, I still get nervous when I have to go to the immigration office in Suan Phlu for even the most trivial reason."
Hhhhmmmm, he stayed another 7 years? Clearly not a black mark against your name then for a little bit of overstay and jail time.
As to staying in african areas, there are a lot of sweeps at the moment of those areas and they take all the Africans away. Get caught up in it without your passport and.......
However is is not a requirement within the Bangkok Metropolitan area to carry your passport apparently, only when outside. Or so I am told.

Guys, On this next trip I am planning to stay about 32 days total. It is my understanding that this is no big deal if you are leaving airport to simply pay the over charge amount. If you get caught by police during an overstay then you can go to jail. Not pleasant to say the least.
I intend to do what I always do and get the automatic VISA upon arrival good for 30 days. I am unsure if this is called exemption from VISA or VISA upon arrival. This is what I have always done. I have not stayed longer than 30 days at a time before. I have read that I can get a 10 day extension. Does this apply to the type I usually get or not? I would rather pay a little more and be covered rather than risk getting caught on my last couple days there without proper VISA. Would this extension be something I could do on arrival at Don MUang?

Never heard of it being doen at Don Muang.
Best bet is Immigration at Suan Plu just off Sathorn or Immigration in Pattaya can possibly do it. I even saw details of an Immigration bus that drops by Ko Sarn Road sometimes to offer convenient visa services.

Why take the chance,, I had 30 day automatic visa ( Australian),, wanted to stay a little longer,, went to Visa extention office paid like 400 BHT and they gave me another 2 weeks,, no HASSSLE
