100'000 bucks should easily last 2 yrs If you take good care of it. I could live in the US for 5-6 yrs without working rather well on 100 grand.
I would have to agree with BK on getting a APT over staying at a hotal the whole time. This one move alone should save you 1000s on your shelther.
Once thats takin care of you need food which is dang cheap in Thailand even if eatting out all the time.
Cheap time consuming activety other then drinking and whoreing would be a good thing to consider. Getting a computer for your apt and other forms of entertainment to occupy yourself would be a must IMO.
Remember on a reguler visa you must make a Visa run every 30 days or at least apply for reguler extensions on your Visa. this will cost you a few baht here and there.
Money left over after the 2 yrs is up. Do you have enough money to relocate back to your life before you took the 2 yr vacation??? Inless you plan to drop over dead after 2 yrs Life will go on. Hope you have fun

well, let's do the maths.
US$100k is 4million baht. If you rent a half decent apartment (why even think of a hotel?) for, say, 15k a month, that's only 180,000 a year. OK, let's make it 20k a month to take into account things like power and phone connection etc. A quarter of a million a year on accommodation.
Food is next to nothing. It would be hard to spend 15k a month on food I reckon. Transport is piss cheap. Beer is cheap.
I reckon you can have a pretty good lifestyle (including beer etc) on half a million a year. Then it's up to you how you budget for p4p (if that's a consideration).
Based on that, my guess is that 4million baht could easily last minimum three years, possibly four.

3 years with cable tv and dvd and breakie, in cheap charlie hotel (AA same soi as lek pattaya) TIMES 1000 nights, with 65 free a year. 1000 a night. 1million baht. Note american breakie. Thats just 28,000 us dollars! Then the 100 free nights gotta leave on top of ya 900 when cash is nearly done. 1000 girls 5 beer bar girls at 1500 includes bar fines and 3 drinks and 1000 girl. and one superbaby a week1.5 million baht. or about 42,000 US DOLLARS, thats $70,000. Then 5,000 a year food, and treats. And 5ooo, for additional alcohol and travel. answer on a farang big butterfly in hotel security situation with just f_ck on mind....3 years!

Well I plan to be in Bkk from Jan 2005 with a similar sum of ready cash available. However, I don't expect to spend any more than $20k per year (70k Bt per month). I think that figure will give you a very comfortable & enjoyable standard of living. I can't really see how you can piss that much cash away in 2 years unless you are trying to impress people and/or you get besotted with a girl (s) with expensive tastes!
That $20k will go down to $13k per year if I decide to do a bit of light teaching work - which may be a good way to experience Thai culture & meet different people.
I don't plan on staying in Bkk for more than 6 months by which time I will have landed a job on the new airport link railway & an expat salary for the next 5 years...well that is the plan..reality may be a bit different. August 2005 may see me in Iraq as the projects fail to materialise in Thailand.
If you plan to 'blow' $100k you may well end up as the Pied Piper of Patpong - Good Luck!!
