The worst thing that will happen is that you will have to move back home and start over again... no big deal.
Life is too short, do it. I am just getting my affairs in order and am planning the same thing for September or October of this year.
Canada has nothing for me that I cannot have in LOS, except for fat white chicks with PPA's

No offence to any teachers here, but I just don't understand the mentality that makes people leave jobs in the west to earn 30k a month here.
Being here on holiday and doing it cheaply is one thing. Doing it for the rest of your life is another. What would scare me is the thought that I'd made a move that I couldnt reverse.. what on earth do teachers DO if they want to go home after a few years? How do they mend the broken bridges?
I guess I have 'chucked' it all to a certain extent, but I've kept my house in New Zealand and that will always pay me a good income here if I ever need it. And I save half my after tax salary in Bkk in an effort to increase my nest egg so that in 4-5 years time, I can effectively 'retire' from corporate life here and find something more relaxing to do.
But coming here is not something I'd contemplate without some kind of safety net or emergency exit strategy.

Of course I have the luxury of having a job that can get me employed anywhere almost anytime, but I tend to listen to my heart, not my head. (Cogito ergo doleo)

I understand all the comments on here and a lot of them are true and valid. I do have a real sad thought in my mind though. There are a group of men and you see the new boat load come in every year and they fall for it. They save up all there hard earn pennies that they have worked for have a holiday here 3 or 4 times and then move here. They think that the life they had when they where here on holiday is the same life if they live here but they have just not thought about it. There are many other things to consider. It’s like a holiday romance great when you have it but living it can be strange and not good sometimes. I meet three or 4 of these every year and I watch them fall deeper and deeper into the abyss. You can not tell them or help them there hooked. If you do try and tell they go mad at you and cal you a miserably git or something.
I personally came here on holiday about 6 times with a shed load of cash then after those holidays went on a world wide sex tour for 1 year and blasted the lot it was amazing I went to al the places PHI, Hong Kong, Mexico, Brazil Argentina. Moscow Amsterdam, Hamburg, Moscow, Dubai and a boat load more too many to put here. Then came here with just little cash behind me and made my own way of living here. Left behind my mother and my farther that’s it. Mother comes to see me 3 times and year and my dad once a year. My job was based in the US and they have asked me to work for them in the far east but no way. They can not afford me now anyway the A**hole#. I do not think this is the best way of doing it as allot of the poor beggars that come here do not have a noodle in the head just a hardon in there pants.
I am sure that if you are a serious English teacher and care about the profession and are good at what you do it can provide a nice living in a great part of the world and give you great deal of work satisfaction. Many of my good friends her are English teachers, age group ranging from 25 to 40. I feel that most of the younger ones are here for a blast and the older ones are her to make it work. Not to say bad things about young teachers as I would say the best English teacher I have met here is 28 years old. He makes over 150000 a month and he loves it and he works him self to death to do it as well.
Do you think we should start a thread called “why newbie’s with no brains should not try and move here and why” I have seen some good men fall.
Who’s buying the beers and see you all on Friday.

I too have "chucked it" to be here in LOS, but it was a planned retreat..
Don't burn your bridges. One day you may have to cross them again. But do take that chance.
Every single day wasted is a day lost.. Forever.
You can allways make more money  but you can't make more time. 
Just do it....What have you got to lose?
