The odds of getting injured or killed in a bus accident in route to Cambodia, or having a very bad experience inside Cambodia are far greater than anything that will happen in BKK for overstaying one day on a visa. If you are really paranoid, I would keep a copy of the return ticket with you on your last day, and stay out of any nightclubs that might be raided.

I overstayed almost 6 months. Paid the maximum fine of THB20,000 (yee-oww!). No raised eyebrows, warnings or anything. I returned 4 days later and was allowed re-enmtry without questions. However, the computer remembers all - I wonder if this might come back to haunt me.
So, I would not sweat a 1-day overstay.

just go to the airport you can not pay in advance for overstay. IF you do not want a 10 days extra visa you can apply for 1000 THB something.
Like they said before it will cost you 200 THB
