That was a great post MR. FM...only problem was you missed my question. ÝSo anyone except FM is welcome to add their 2 baht....Hopefully in 10,000 words or less.
While I understand that a copy is not an original,(thank you very much) I would much rather lose the copy.
Ý Ý Just as I don't carry all my money with me all the time...... although I may need it when I get arrested for not carring my passport ...I think a copy of the passport Ýwill suffice for me.
My question is....Do I need to copy the page that was stamped when I arrived too?

A pity Stick has to turn this into yet another sinister example of "targetting farangs". It has always been the law here that foreigners have to carry their passports or copies. Since Thais also have to carry their ID cards, there is nothing anti-farang about this.
Note that he said copies were acceptable to the police during this spot-check.
Like others, I have never once been asked for my ID here. Perhaps we just don't have that terrorist look about us. If they're now doing spot checks, this isn't so surprising - everyone knows the Govt has its nickers in a twist about APEC security, and various people will Ýwant to earn brownie points demonstrating their zeal.
Stick's very next item bangs on about the terrorist threat in places like KS Road. I don't think he can have it both ways. Ý Ý

Mr. Teacher...sorry to 'write' you to death. I implied by 'a copy' that you would include any thing that relates to your stay in Thailand, which is what Mr Yurune does.
I have never been asked for any documentation during any stay in Thailand either. However, no one realy know how APEC will affect the situation.
So I am only suggesting, that during APEC you might make an exception by carrying your documents for a few days, and I offer that comment from my previous experience at another APEC meeting in asia.
Mr Arcadius...Your words 'brownie points' better states what I was trying to. This will happen to some guys, but as you said Mr. Stickman perhaps is getting a little excited when he uses his words, "Yeah, things have
got that bad." How can the stepped up security against terrorists be 'bad'?
After APEC is over we will all be experts. Sure.

There was about a dozen police (immigration?) at the entrance to Nana on Friday last at 1am but they seemed more interested in the Girls and Bar owners than any farangs? Been to LOS 50+ times but never been asked or stopped by the Police!
