My information is the CIF price used by Customs is the new car price and not the current market price. This could be bad information as I have NEVER imported a vehicle into Thailand.
If you are in Thailand, why not contact the Customs Department and ask them? If you are not in Thailand, is there not an embassy near you that has a telephone?
Have you googled this problem sufficiently?

Keep on googling. If you google the Google issue, you WILL get vindication.
The WordSpy definition: "google v.: To search for information on the Web, particularly by using the Google search engine"
Google's trademark lawyer writes: "We ask that you help us to protect our brand by deleting the definition of "google" found at wordspy.com or revising it to take into account the trademark status of Google."
However I intend to keep googling on, xeroxing copies of whatever I google on the web. Got to run now - fedexing a package, picking up some kind of extra-strength aspirin - and if I can't find some charmin or at least some kleenex at a time saver kind of store then Google's trademark lawyers will just have to kiss my ass.

Unlike the other posters who chose to ignore your respectful request, I HAVE imported a car, so can I play?
(But I can't imagine how my import into the US can be of any help - well maybe as much help as you've gotten from some others here.)
Really, though, the advice you've gotten is sound, in line with everything else I've read - protectionist Thailand makes it intentionally costly - best to not consider unless you absolutely have to have that special Merc in LOS.
Not sure of your "here" and "there", but if you're saying you have a spread from 240K B somewhere outside Thailand, to 900K B in Thailand, and your intent however is profit, then it could possibly be worthwhile, but not guaranteed since some tariffs are above 300%.
But just to spew while discussing Thai fees: How would Thais in America react if they were barred from owning controlling interest in their business in the US? From owning a home or land even if they had US children? What if Americans and Europeans demanded that all Thai goods be charged import fees above that mandated by law or trade agreements. Thais would cry foul, and rightly so. Write your congressmen...
Thailand is under pressure from trade organizations to reform, but it doesn't look likely soon with the present administration.
