as my landlord is a khon ang-grit who also has to undergo the 3-month pilgrimage, I informed him of the relocation of the immigration office and he replied - quote:
"They just love making us foreigners jump through hoops to stay in their lovely country, that's for sure!"
i wonder if this is the universal consensus from the expatriate community?

you could go back to the US and apply at the Thai Embassy in DC. You still have to proof the funding ( 800000Baht ) but a bank statement with a corresponding letter from your US bank will do.

I had to visit the new offices about 3 weeks ago.
Long story.
They are not that hard to get to by taxi but traffic as you would expect was a bitch. I had a look around as I had time to spare once I arrived. Nice new buildings, some places to get food on the bottom floor. Ample car parking and when one of the soon to come underground lines is open there will be a station outside this place making it very easy.
Travelling to the office I did it all by taxi but on the way back when leaving I noticed a line of about 60000 people and no taxis, foot express time I think. I walked out the back door away from the main road and noticed a large line of motorbike taxis. I called one over and got them to take me to the main road 20bt. Then I crossed the main road using the bridge nicely located where the motorbike taxi dropped me and caught a taxi to Mo chit BTS 50 ish bt then to Nana station for a few beers with mates. More easy, more quick but for those on a budget more expensive in the long run.
Well worth it.
