And you were both trying to say I have not nor ever will be a contractor, DOH !
I'm going to start negotiations (air ticket, accommodation, etc.) again once I get my possible pension started. It would be nice to have something to fall back on between jobs.

Well it is not standard practice for any contracts I have done or the hundreds I people I know who do the same type of contracts.
Typically we negotiate a daily rate for contracts and we ensure that the daily rate is high enough to cover all those sundry costs like maintaining another residence, airfares, accommodation etc.
That is how the majority of the SAP contracting market works unless you are working through a consulting company like Accenture where they do things a little differently but they get paid less unless you are a top manager. Further there is usually only a months notice period on the contract so you take a bit of a risk on any overseas contract if it goes belly up.
The rates for these gigs then need to be really high.

If you're up against another contender you could price yourself right out of the market too, but I guess it's not a concern in a case where you're already making money w/o mobilizing.

Well I dont bother doing an interview unless I know what rate they are willing to pay.
If the rate is good then I put my hat in the ring.
If they want to interview me then I am probably more than 50 percent chance of getting the contract based on previous experience.
