So, in summary - Bangkok Bank, or Thai Farmer's Bank (Kasikorn) should be fine? I'll look that up, then.
I just need a foreign account to transfer funds into to hoard them, so that I can have some spending money whenever I get to LOS. Makes it easier to transfer money (I assume I can use the ATM card to make deposits from the US?) when the currency exchange rate is good.

A credit card application requires not only a passport and work permit but (normally) a copy of a rent/lease agreement for your Thailand domicile as well as copies of bank statements (3 to 6 months) so you'll save yourself a lot of pain if you stick with a savings account with ATM attached.
