North-West? Can't say. But it should have a major highway similar to the A-2 which runs from Korat to near the Laos border in the North-East.
A good road, just a notch below an American Interstate, two or three lanes wide all the way. Truck and bus traffic can be heavy at times, but it usually makes for a fast trip.
The seconday "highways" [three digits, usually] are a bit more of an adventure; one lane each way but still high speed and not at all smooth in spots. Be very careful where a road out of a village joins such a highway as there will be motorbikes and farm equipment entering the highway at very slow speeds.

Back in t6he 60s 3 of us shared a house with a single width driveway, so the first one home's car got boxed in by the 2nd and 3rd. So we agreed for short journeys the first guy wanting to go out took the tail end car we kept the cars tanked up with fuel so there were no aguments.
But boy was it fun all 3 cars were RHD with manual gearbox's.
My car was a classic Triumph Roadster with the 4 speed gear change lever on the right side of the steering colume.
The other cars were a Ford Consul had a 3 speed gear change on the left of the colume and a Triumph Herald with a 4 speed gear change on the floor.
I broke the Fords indicator stalk trying to change gear with it.

Well, Nokna, maybe I am just used to putting my left hand into her underpants from the left side driver's position. Great tips, esp. re. defensive techniques - sounds like you might have earned your stripes in the KSA SChool of Hard Knocks.
Been there/done that in LOS on items 6 & 7. No matter how hard I concentrated on rules for different side, I entered a roundabout in the wrong direction on a moto. My bad, but that's a particularly tricky force of habit to be especially aware of.
Did get run off the road in a moto by car which came head-on on wrong side, on a blind mountain curve. Fortunate to be here.
So, given the well developed and incredibly cheap Thai transportation system, terrible accident rate, mental gymnastics involved if switching back and forth to different driving sides, and severe legal consequences for farangs in accidents, I vote to forget driving altogether in LOS if you're just visiting for a short period, and take taxi, bus, train or plane.
