You know, particularly seeing as how it is totally easy to have the VISA taken care of at the right time, I fail to see how 'overstaying' is an issue, or even a problem. The system certainly makes it relatively easy to get a VISA when entering, well as getting extensions. So, what's the big deal, except for incredible flakiness...?
I'd agree with your conclusion regarding folks that overstay, and get burnt...

Hzink - Agree with you fully. It is so easy to keep it styraight (esp with the 60 day double entry plus 15 day ex on each entry). Despite the fact that all they had to do was go to immigration in Krabi town Friends of mine overstayed there visa in October by three days (they reckoned it would work out cheaper) and paid a fine, left - no Problem - They entered LOS about a week ago and got a serious third degree at immigration re the overstay. They were clearly warned not to overstay again.
Seems that the tide is shifting
