Actually ThaidUp the problem is the opposite - monthly maintenance charges are actually too low in Thailand and that is why condos are so poorly maintained.
Monthly maintenance charges are typically about Bt20/sqm (not sq ft) per month. So if you have a 200sqm condo you are paying Bt4,000 per month maintenance. That is really only adequate to cover monthly running costs - guards, admin, utilities, swimming pool etc. and leaves little spare for renovation of the building and common areas.
In order to maintain the average condo properly, the monthly maintenance charge should be around Bt40/sqm/month.
If you really want your condo properly maintained maybe you should try and persuade the owners to raise the maintenance charge. If your condo has been built in the last ten years there should be a proper sinking fund with accounts that you can check.
(I dont know what the monthly maintenance charge is in the West but I would be interested to know)

I have seen Corporate fees in Oz of a similar figure to double, say $US100 to $200 per month. So, based on increased wages and costs in Oz compared to here, certainly very similar and they maintain there buildings properly there, most of the time.
I agree with TU generally, besides he has good taste in lesbians also.

Got here a couple of weeks ago and sorted my first private tuition student within a couple of days.
I was just sitting in one of the open air bars that spring up on sukhumvit after 10pm enjoying a 60b long island iced tea when I got talking to a swiss dude who was with his long term thai g/f.
We got chatting and I speak a little thai and although he really likes her it was hard forhim to communicate with her as his thai was pants and her english no better than the obligatory where u from?, how long u stay? !!!!
I told him I charge 600b an hour with a minimum purchase of a 10 hour block. He paid me there and then 20 hours upfront = 12,000b ! One thing I did do was to make sure we arranged a pre-determined time and if she fails to show she loses the lesson - don't wanna waste my time waiting on no shows !
Dude, if you are resourceful, you can ace some great private lessons, especially from the "p4p community" in bkk. As UKGuy says, ask someone who can write great thai to place an advert for you in the post and wait till the phone rings !!!

my girlfriends a manager at the pizza company, apparently her wage is something like 10,000 bht per month. So whatever job you get, dont expect too much!
Sorry to hijack, but what if I were to apply to work as a DJ over in LOS? I wasnt too impressed at the tunes I heard in the clubs, espesially pattaya - more cheese than a dairy farm! would they consider giving me a work permit?

No you cannot get a work permit to work as a DJ here.
Still, dont worry, 95% of DJs here work for free Heinekens and you dont need a work permit for that.
