I'm not suggesting Derman (or anyone) shouldn't just do it. Instead I'm suggesting everyone should analyse their reasons for just doing it.
Living here is NOT like being on an extended holiday. The fundamentals are very different. Not worse, not better, just different.
I see so many farangs here who have ran away from the west, rather than run towards the east. You can run away from a location; you can't run away from yourself.

Please bear in mind that neither of these poets were poor, or in the case of Jagger/Richards, really have to concern themselves with generating an income. Most of the original 'live for the NOW' comments come from people that can well afford to do so 
I think Scobie is suggesting, and rightly so, that when considering seizing the day, to do so well-prepared - I particularly like that part about how 'running away' doesn't achieve much (though that seems to be a big motivation for many).

Damn right. I'm sick of hearing advice to 'chuck it all up' and seize the day from rich kids who know they can rely on mum and dad to leave them a tidy little estate in 20 years.
Free spirits are easy when it comes backed by a trust fund.

Coming from a hard background where I did not have a real roof over my head until I was 14 I to understand you comment it’s true.
Allot of people do come here and live off the estate that mommy and daddy have left them. The other side to this is I see what happens to these people when mommy and daddy’s estate has run out and they did not have there wits about them.
They are the guys back in our home city’s on the streets begging for cash and have no chance of building there own estate for themselves or for anyone else for that matter.
Its all a point of priorities. Where ever I go I support my self, I have never had any support off another person in fact I am like a thai girl in some ways, I send money home every month.
I like to work hard and I am good at what I do. I feel sorry for the person that has never done a hard days work in any area as they do not know what they are missing as work satisfaction is almost as good as orgasm satisfaction in my books.
Plus as above when the money has run out, all they do is run out.
