teacher, if you have a copy of your passport (first pages with your pictures and page with your visa, yes) and you behave nice, smile and use those kun's and kap's, you will very probably be fine. what you could gain by carrying your passport is well offset by the chance to loose it.

Quote from Yurune... I've never been asked for my passport by a policeman, but it can happen. I also carry my 30B Health Scheme Card to add to my legitimacy. ___________________________________________ Thanks Yurune, I wondered what that card was for. I guess I am a legitimate #@%$er Last time I was stopped by a policeman he did not like my passport copies, CA DL, or International Drivers license, I think it was because of the bad photos. He did like the 500 badt note. I should have pulled that out first and saved time. I agree with buxeda, carrying actual passports etc.. is not worth the risk. Behaving politly and showing copies with the offer to go with the officer to where you store the originals is fine. Don't sweat this one at all. The only ones who need to worry are the ones with bugus stamps. In fact, I just spent half of the day at Thai Immigration today. Another rule (read the fine print on the entry card) is that if you stay in Thailand and even if you have a long term VISA (say 1 year) you must register every 90 days with Thai immigration of your address in Thailand. This can be satisfied by leaving Thailand and returning thus starting the 90 day clock over again with your new entry card, but if you stay in Thailand you must fill out a one page form, Thai Immigration, 4th floor, Room 402, No Lines. Failure to do so before the 90 days expiration results in a 2000 THB fine. I guess previously this law was not being enforced. Now it is for both revenue and security reasons.

I've always obeyed the 90 day rule. Have never been myself though, someone else goes for me. You can also do it by post.

Stick: "...technically us Ýforeigners are supposed to carry our passports at all times too." Technically? No, that should read "actually". The fact that the cops have let slide so many violators of the regulations is nothing less or more than a testament to their good nature and piss-poor training. Can you imagine showing a photocopy of your driver's license to a cop back home? And then whining when he drags your ass off to jail? What a bunch of f_cking cry-babies Thailand attracts... Carry the f_cking passport and don't act like an ass, don't get falling down drunk, etc. You have less chance of having your passport stolen in Thailand than you do having your wallet lifted in any big Western City, IF you just comport yourself. If that doesn't work for you, get the hell out or wait around to get what your stupidity and arrogance buys for you. The foregoing NOT in direct response to any previous post. I just needed a little rant. Was in a traffic accident today while in a taxi, just about missed my plane, short on sleep... Fastmover: "Sorry Harry, there ain't nothing that looks like 'U.S.A'. on the front cover of another countries passport" Actually, IIRC, even American passports don't say 'U.S.A.' -- they say 'United States of America'. Nyah!
