ich, back to school. Well, to be honest I don`t know what i`d do in the big world of education and school system. I`ll sertainly not gonna give up the thought though.

I think you already have, shorty - anyway, one way to start in getting an education, is to learn how to write properly. You write worse than a yank, no offense, and that's saying something. Good spelling's a good foundation for pretty much everything.

...and regarding your architect friend - he didn't just pick up that degree with a lucky backpack, but having an education most likely contributed greatly. Something to consider when you bemoan your lack of options in the educational world.

Cheers!

If you have roughly $4,000 lying around, and know how to manage a bar, and turn it around to make tons of $$$ in a challenging environment, then you have found your calling -- still, if I may make a suggestion - don't!
Reminds of what I've heard a few times. I want to come to Thailand and be worth one million dollars after 3 years, how can I do it? Answer: Easy come to Thailand with two million dollars, then invest in a bar.

dirty guru
If you can live on 50,000 a month.
Buy 3 small businesses North at about 200,000 -250,000 each.

Make it clear profits must be X amount (making sure they will maintain their income and yours)
Noodle eatries, internets with games, hair salon, these sort of things return after staff wages about $500 US a month at least profit.

Trick is small inexpensive rents in little towns with populations of 3000 -10,000....honest hard working people, and location.

Bars south are high risk.
You need to have a bigger capital base and risk alot of losses.

goodluck.

Ps I live half the year in Australia but still recieve payments from each business here.
Its small money but its steady and safe investment.

There's plenty of work around for expats with all levels of education. It's just a matter of coming here with enough money to last you 3-6 months and spending that time networking (including, but not exclusively hitting the bars) and building your contacts. Eventually someone will give you a start.

kenneth.. don't raise the lad's hopes too high. It's a slippery slope for people who arent well equipped for life here. If you don't have discipline, it's easy to slide down the drain, end up managing a bar, living in a shitty apartment and - eventually - ending up as a Pattaya Jumper.

Let's face it.. from his posts, do you think Shorty has the discipline for it. We're talking about a guy who wants to live in Asia but doesnt know where Jakarta is.

I've heard of Brits who have come on holidays to Thailand and didnt realise they had left Europe. I kid you not.

Yeah, my comment was basic common sense.
If you can't keep it together in your own country then there is little chance of surviving in Thailand.
However, if someone really wants to live here, and there are many attractions other than bar birds, then the best way is to get the business of finding good contacts, which will lead to a job, over and done with before you go on a 3 month drinking/whoring session.

Contrary to cheapcharlie's post, it is possible to pick up a teaching job here without any formal qualifications, but it will be in a crap school on crap salary and in a crap location. That, of course, is your choice.

Sorry Scobie thats not what im saying, im was never saying he couldn't get a teaching job, only they are getting stricter on dodgy degrees. Meaning technically
possible somewhere down the line it could be checked and he could loose his visa.
This is only info I got from a bloke who works as an english teacher and at this time was busy with a degree online because he was shit scared they would kick him out. These are his words not mine.
If it were true its of interest for anyone contemplating being an english teacher in Thailand.
