6 months late on this but have something to add. If you're going to the "Petchburi/Klong Tan 3", i.e. Meree, Evita or Biwa, the transport procedure should be Skytrain to Phrakhanong, exit on the odd-sois side, then nail a cab and tell him "Thanon Petchburi". He'll go left on Soi 71 and left again on Petchburi. It's all left turns and no lights except to get on and off soi 71. Quick and cheap by the meter. Meree is on your left on Petchburi, Evita is across the street by taking the footbridge, and as for Biwa your guess is as good as mine. Picked this up from a taxi as I took my lady to hospital. She's fine. Sorry for the late revival, I though this would help a newboy.

Quote: from tourist on 2:27 pm on June 4, 2003 Staying on Suhkumvit near Soi Cowboy I had trouble getting taxis to take me to the massage parlors on Ratchada Road even though I gave them directions - ÝRatchada Soi Sip Jet, asked them to take me to nearby hotels (emerald hotel) showed them on my tourist map (in english) where I wanted to go, showed them cards from the MPs with maps and addresses (in thai script). ÝSome of them clearly had trouble understanding my poor thai pronounciation. ÝOthers would counter offer to take me to Cupidy or Mona Lisa, which I would refuse. ÝSome would eventually flat out refuse to take me where I wanted to go. ÝI always followed the advice I read here previously to hail cabs that are moving and avoid any that are parked or hanging around soliciting rides and make sure they use the meter. Ý The first thing I tried was to skip taxis all together and go to MPs that are along the BTS skytrain route. ÝI tried Chao Phraya 2. ÝThe girls there were fun but clearly didn't match up with the quality of those available at the Ratchada road MPs. The next thing I tried was to combine the skytrain with taking a taxi. ÝI figured if I got out of the Sukhumvit area the taxi drivers would be less hard core, I might be circumventing some rush hour traffic, by taking the skytrain to Saphan Kwai the taxi ride would be 50% shorter and I personnally enjoy riding on the sky train. My experience was that this worked fine. ÝI did it several times and I'll probably do it again on my next trip. ÝThe taxi drivers were much more pleasant. ÝThey took me where I asked to go on the meter. ÝI didn't have to negotiate. ÝOn the other hand, I doubt I saved any time using this route. ÝThe drivers did tend to have more trouble understanding my accent. ÝOne of the drivers got lost. ÝOne of the taxis broke down. ÝThe neighborhoods we drove through were less than great. The other alternative I'm thinking about is staying in one of the hotels along Ratchada road, though this would cut me off from Soi Cowboy / Nana which I enjoy as well. Does anybody have any other suggestions on getting to the Ratchada MPs with less hassle?

Quote: from pinga on 3:45 pm on June 4, 2003 Tourist, Greetings. This issue was extensively discussed before and a search could provide you with the following informative thread under topic: Misc, Nightlife - Etc. Skytrain stops for important places Skytrain + taxi = More time for banging!! PS Since the link above is very informative and not yet f_cked, I will copy and paste your post and feed that thread. IMHO the information you have provided will be useful there and may enhance more useful dicussions on that particular topic....cheers!

Nice links, Abe. I've been up and down Ratchada a couple of times and tried to plot subway stops against important landmarks (aka places to screw- they seem to be the brightest lit) and it seems to me that none of the stations are comfortable walking distance to any landmark. Somebody please humiliate me by citing contrary examples.

Jay; it's true that the stations don't put you on the doorstep of the main MPs but at least they are in the right neighborhood so you would miss the worst of the traffic and have a straight shot along Ratchidapisek by short taxi ride. Of course no one is holding their breath for the new system to open on schedule. Pack's advice remains the best.... avoid the trip between 4 and 7pm especially if it's raining, because there is no good way to move between Sukumvit and Ratchida during those hours unless you want to risk your life on a motorcycle taxi.
