Air asia doesn't fly to vientiane. Laotian does but much more expensive. Train/bus is a drag. Only if you want a double entry choose vientiane has no visa fee. Saving of 1500 baht. By air one overnight. By bus or train at least 3 nights.

In Laos doing a visa run, can confirm embassy isn't charging for visas (currently). Applied for a 60X2 visa, will have to see if it gets approved. I normally only do a 60 day visa for 1K, I assume that's also free.

If you have applied for a visa you should already know if you have to pay or not as you pay upon application.

I've been told to just put 2X beside the Tourist box on your application to get a double entry. I hope mosquito posts after he gets his passport back.

Humbert: Listen to Doc, but if you wanna do Laos, fly AA up to Udon Thani, go to the bus station, and take the bus to Vientiane. It's only an hour or so. I got the Lao visa first (about $30), through my hotel. I was told that if you got one on arrival, they wouldn't wait for you, and you would have to get a taxi to Vientiane. UT-Nong Kai-Vientiane, it's a nice little trip, and cheap as shit. I don't know dick about Penang, but you can have good fun in Vientiane. wj

Got my passport back with 2 entries, so I'm basically good for 6 months (60 days, 30 day extension at Nong Khai Immigration Office, day visit to Laos, 60 days and another 30 day extension. Can confirm the bus from Udon to Vientiene won't wait for you at the border, and Lao immigration at the border isn't very efficient. Once I had to wait almost an hour to get my passport back after paying the 35.00. A taxi from the border to Vientiene (embassy wait and ride to your hotel) costs 300 baht. My understanding visas will be free until June 2009, then they may extend the policy or may not!!!

I'll be going to Thailand shortly on a 2 entry tourist visa which is effectively good for 6 months. I don't want to return to the UK. Can I get a second 2 entry visa from a Thai consulate in another South East Asian country ?Somebody said that they were tightening up on this.

actually, that day trip in the middle doesn't have to be to Laos. You can go over the border anywhere, even by plane. did you have to put 2X next to Tourist Visa or did you just communicate it to them verbally ?

Hi LokulYokul, Thanks for your reply. I had to tick a box on the application form for a 3 entry visa. There was a choice of 1,2 or 3. There were reports on some other boards that Thai consulates were getting reluctant to issue one multiple entry visa after another. I'm glad to know that it's not true.
