I work in the USA Sept-May. I spend the other 4 months in Thailand vacationing. The law is a pain in the ass.

One thing you could do is buy the Elite card.

Otherwise, simply get a double entry tourist visa - you get 60 days on arrival, and can extend 30 days at Immigration. Then you leave the country, come back, same thing again.

Or get a single entry tourist visa - 60 days on arrival, 30 day extension at Immigration, then leave the country and get a visa on arrival stamp (30 days).

Or get the single entry tourist visa - 60 days on arrival, 30 day extension at Immigration, another 7 day extension at Immigration, then pay overstay - if the latter works out cheaper than doing a border run.

Or maybe you could even obtain a business visa before you arrive in Thailand.

Why not just apply for a 4 month tourist visa.

Red Letter Day!!!!!

mel and I are in complete agreement here.

Why not apply for the appropriate visa to cover your term of visit? If you are solvent and a not a troublemaker getting the visa (especially as an American, Brit, or Aussie) is pretty much automatic...

Wow, this is almost insanity - but I am in complete agreement with *both* China Sailor and Mel!!!

Seriously, do not blame 'the law' for being a PITA, when you are simply failing to follow proper procedures. While my visa allows 90 days at a time, and is valid for multiple entries across a year, the regular tourist visa, as outlined by the others, is a very valid choice.

Heck, if your solvency is at risk because of a $50 or $100 visa, then you shouldn't be traveling anyways - and as it stands, all it takes is a visit to your local consulate. Not Thailand's fault, you know...

A close look at, for my example, I don't work and I cannot retire yet as I am not 50 yet.
Actually according to Thai law, you are working two jobs. One as a computer consultant and two as a tour operator.

I usually leave unpredictibly leave thailand several times, thus doesn't that make getting a loger Visa a waste of time? ie If I leave country 40 days into 60 day visa, didn't I waste 20 days and now I'm on the 30 days entry program?

well you can get a multiple entry tourist visa, but I agree with you for many travellers / tourists it's more complicated than it needs to be.
