How easy is it to get to and from Oakwood by Car? ÝMy GF seems to think it would be a nightmare at peak times. ÝMy key concern is her being able to get from her office near Saladaeng BTS to me in a reasonable time.
Is the Oakwood very far from the nearest BTS (Chong Nonsi?). ÝWould be interested to see if your experiences bore out my assumptions. ÝI know I have sat in many a traffic jam heading between Silom and Thaksim Bridge area.
That said I dont want to rule out what certainly looks like a nice place unnecessarily (especially when the rates seem such good value).

The New Sathorn Road is a wide boulevard and in the early evenings its hell leaving the business district but pretty easy going on the hotel side of the road going into town.
Sorry, I didnt remember it being near any skytrain station in particular.
If you like relative peace and quiet, this is one of the few places in downtown Bangkok. Great pool and I remember loving the apartment's very long balcony

i was just wondering if you are coming to bkk to set up business or go to school or what if you are going to school go live in chiang mai get a penthouse 240 sq meter apartment for 25000bht and a maid for 5000 and a motor bike 4000 (which is relatively safe to ride because you are not in bkk) and really live well. that is if you can go lite on the whoring. because for that chiang mai just ain't the same nor is it the same for business but other than that. life is better and vastly cheaper up there

If that question is directed at me, what principally brings me to BKK at this time is the desire to spend time with my gf to see if things can work out or not. ÝP4P is not really on my agenda right now. ÝAs a GTG from a conservative family, the only way I can see that I will get to spend a decent amount of time with her is for me to be based in BKK.
I think the school thing would be a valuable experience in the long run but for the above reason must be in BKK, also I see it as something worthwhile to do whilst looking for a business or maybe a job. ÝI could live for several years even in BKK without needing to work, but savings will only take me so far, so I am also thinking about positioning myself for the future.
Were my situation different, I would probably gladly follow your advice.

I usually ask for Sathupradit Soi 19 (sip cow  ) and if the driver doesn't know that, Soi Wat Phoman does it. Leaving, there are usually taxis across the road and, in my experience, they use the meter.
I visited friends there and haven't stayed there myself, but it's too far out for my taste, which extends no further than Soi Langsuan.

There are very nice apartments around ratchadamri sp? and Langsuan as mentioned, the bts is just one stop from saladaeng, so the gf would be home and in her knickers within minutes almost.
As for Oakwood, I stayed there last year for awhile, if you get off the bts at Chongnonsi and then get a taxi straight up Narathiwat/chongnonsi rds, the traffic is not very bad, it gets bad if you do a lefty or righty into Sathon, but straight ahead it is ok. One little piece of advice is to tell the taxi each time to go straight ahead past the lights where he would normally do a left hand turn and then a U turn to get you back to Oakwood. By going straight and doing a U-ey up near the beer house, you will miss shitloads of traffic waiting at the lights in peak hour where he would normally turn left. Difficult to picture I know, but you have to be there, it saves about a 10-15 minute wait, trust me.

Cheers for the advice, the decent Serviced apartments in Ratchadamri/Langsuan seem to run to up to 30K bht pm more than the Oakwood hence the attraction there.
In an ideal world I would probably choose that area, Sathorn Or Wireless as the ideal location. ÝChin House at the moment seems to be offering the best blend of location & quality vs. price. ÝInterested in your thoughts though if you know anywhere good near Ratchadamri/Siam/Chitlom/Ploenchit BTS. ÝWill have to look around etc. on my trip next month.
I will ignore your comments about the gf, I love her for her incredible mind and terrific personality  any physical attraction is purely a bonus.
