Yes we write bespoke software for manufacturing companies, I mainly do asp.net stuff with MS SQL backend, once we have nailed the spec then the actual software can be generated anywere...... All I need is a decent internet connection......
Just a bit hard when you have Miss6Foot stood naked behind you asking "Why you work? why not come to bed"
Am back in the UK now, but it will not be 2 long before I am out over there again working hard......

Well sh_t hit the fan a few months back in ol corp world and several hundred of us technical staff have the dreaded another state relo coming up at months end......off to the pac northwest Portland OR......hold all BKK flights, cancel trip plans, sell the house, say so long to friends and lovers in Phoenix AZ and hello cold rainy weather......the months of June and I'll be in Pattaya trollin for the trampyest love lust hussys that want it........Damm !!! frustraiting getin the ever so implicit assumptions that keep us all mysteriously wondering why we like to work here in the USA for the CEO's.

I lucked out and was able to retire from the US Gummit 13 years ago when I was 44. I don't miss work but I do miss Thailand.

I'm so ready to get the hell out of this miserable Midwestern U.S. weather and sit in 90 degree temps. I've already inquired with my boss about transfering to another dept. in BKK. I've set a goal of 12 months to make it happen.
Are there any stories of anyone just quitting their job, selling all possesions and taking a suitcase? I'd love to hear the good and the bad if there are any.

Yep, that's what I did. I jacked in my job, sold off everything and went to seek a new job somewhere more convivial than HK.
If you wanted a well paid job in BKK in the mid 90s the best place to find one was London. Strange but true.
My agent phoned one Wednesday when I was in England, "Can you fly on Friday to BKK for an interview?".
Well not much choice really when you are on your backside and got nothing else planned for the weekend.
Anyway, arrived with 20kg of luggage and never left.

Well, I wanted to set this up as a separate post, but maybe those of you working in BKK could shed some light on this.
I'm kicking around the idea of relocating to BKK, but would like to find a job in my field. I currently work in insurance and was looking at a couple underwriting jobs, but they stated they were looking for someone under 30 years of age.
What gives? Employment laws in the US would never have an age restriction on a job, so I was wondering if you guys would have any insight on this.
