I know several UK guys that have done the same and they have no plans to come back................ getting the visa I guess would be the hardest part...........

The only thing that worries me is this Thaksin character trying to change the place into another Singapore?
If I wanted to go to Singapore I'd go there not Thailand.
I think there is more to it than that though, if he tries to bring in 10pm closing and the bars go broke he may find he has scared off ALL the tourists not just 'erberts' like me?
Leeds? Football isn't comong home its going broke. My company is pleading poverty yet the senior managers get £50,000 Mercedes and house prices are still shooting up. All very strange ?

House price inflation is keeping the economy alive at the moment, manufacturing is in demise and we are just becoming a service country................ I cant wait to leave.........
I was watching Michael Palins arround the world in 80 days the other day, and when he returned home he comented that the UK people were the most unfriendly he had meet in all his travels I quite agree.......... Every were you go people just rip you off, no one has anytime for anything than themselves...............
My friends and business people I meet, all wonder and get excited when I re-tell some of my BKK experiences but none have them have the balls to do anything other than dream....................
I am not to worried re mr Thaksin as am sure once he has feathed his nest he will be off doing something else.. even if he closes some of the BKK scene it will just move out some were else........... and its cheaper living out of BKK anyway.............

Just trying to put things in a satirical context UKYorkie.
Sure I have a love / hate  relationship with the UK.
But those of us who 'trade in' for something else, sometimes find what we left behind, in the end, more bearable.
Imagine you organize a bit of sex for some Japanese tourists and get life in prison. Or you chat on line and get nailed for what you say, 8 years. Or you send newspaper clippings out of the country and get 12 years for trading in secrets. You believe in certain spiritual practices, get apprehended and get beaten to death. Sixteen families sons mysteriously disappear over a few years and no official action results. Or a teacher rapes student girls right in class but no one stops it, for 3 years.
That all happened where I live now, and much, much more in 2003. But I am not allowed to get pissed off because it ain't my piece of earth by birth.
So I suspect I will be 'trading in' again soon.
The days of empire are over. And if whiners from the UK want to complain they are gonna have to join the queue.
But be warned, there's a damn long line ahead of you.
Better bring a sandwich with you...and a pot to piss in.
By the way, I am not in a mood to whine right now....
