I agree 100% with Hermano's bargirl and 0% with Arcadius.
It's not 'rubbing along with thais all the time' that makes a farang tingtong, it's taking a short term lifestyle of drinking, fvcking hookers for the better part of the day and night, and turning it into some sort of lifelong obsession, whenever one feels the itch, which can be 24/7 for some tingtongs.
The obvious excuse: it's all around you so how to escape?
There are people who've done it but it can't be easy. I suppose you have to be pretty disciplined.
We have all seen people who look and behave like they have been in Thailand too long. Gone troppo, for sure.
Some of them end up driving taxis here like Cousin Krypto our resident in-bred Lousiana boy, some far worse.

I guess we can all move to Singapore and live the Stepford Wive's life. Ah yes Singapore with the lowest fcking ratio per month in the world.
I know a lot of people who live and work here and can control themselves. If you use the same logic all the bars should be shut down to prevent people from being alcoholics. But it is the abusers who make good press, especially for the Sun.

I should have known some insecure prick with nary a leg to stand on would interpret my comments as trying to paint Singapore as some sort of 24 hr expat haven. (It may or may not be depending on your requirements)
But that was not the point at all.
There are expats who lose it in every part of asia on a regular basis.
It's not due to being surrounded by locals, it's due to the choices they make.
Im sure Thaidup has some responsible friends who are in control, this topic is not about them. It's also not about shutting down bars and hookers in thailand.
Its about exactly what Hermano's BG said about longstay farangs going a bit tingtong.
Which can be interpreted as farangs who don't understand the concept of 'balance' and go off the edge ultimately.
