Hello all

Making a visa run every 30-40 Days like I said is not a big deal to me since I will only have to do it maybe 2-3 times to stay the 3-5 Monthes I want to a yr  My Question is does anyone thing that this loophole will be fixed in the near future. Seriously Alls you have to do is take a trip up to the boarder every 30 days cross over and hop right back and you get another 30 days??? This sounds to easy. Also why can;t you just take a trip to the airport pay your 500 Baht exit fee and re enter Thru there again and do this over and over unlimited times??? Anyone got a opinion on this idea???Rock on guys

yeah well Nokna the typical European doesn't work in the Mid-east or would you not concede to that....if you want to say that the average European doesn't get at least 4 weeks off per year then I'm calling you a liar.

***Note****
from now on everytime I make a generalization Nokna is not included in the equation

Dave
just for the record, the average employee in UK gets 4 weeks leave per year, sometimes rising to 5 weeks according to length of service, then 7 statutary holidays per year.

BTW, how many statutary holidays are there in Thailand? There seems an awful lot to me, or does it just seem that way?

i for one get 25 days paid holiday a year, anymore after that is unpaid.
if i work any of the statutary days i get a day off in Lieu.
so 30-60 days a year would be great for me in the first place.

and i don't recall saying anything about where the typical European worked or have i missed something again?.
but i do know i have had 2 days off since Boxing Day and all holiday leave has been suspended indefinately.

and anyway my post was in jest,no ranting from me.

In most European countries, 4 weeks are the average. In some other EU countries, 5-6 weeks (= 30 days max) are more common...

But 30-60 days?? No way, I never heard about this.. not even with unpaid leave. (Would be possible for freelancers, self-employed persons and short-time workers, of course.)

BTW there are also some US firms that provide 3-4 weeks of vacation, depending on the seniority of their employees.

Regarding the main topic of the thread: I'm not yet a LOS expert, but my first impression is that I would not like to live here permanently... I am looking forward to spend most of my 30 vacation days around BKK in the future - LOS is a great place for holidays and a great temporary hideway from the overly civilized western countries, but living there forever??

No, I don't think so... too many disadvantages - some hidden, some rather obvious...

Fritz..'but my first impression is that I would not like to live here permanently... '

Just give me the chance and a half decent salary and I would be there like a shot.

I hate the f_cking plane ride home. You know when I am in LOS I party like a good un  drinking, shaging. I hardly go out here in the UK It is just so piss boring after being in LOS.

I spend the next 3 months wishing my life away until I can return.

I planned to return in NOV and do a months stint but don't think I can last that long.

I am already looking at the cost of flights for July/August.

@ Lofty:

... I also hated to leave the LOS, and life seemed a bit dull afterwards during the first days. But isn't this always the case after really good vacations?

If you feel totally strange and unhappy at home, then maybe there is something wrong in your life that you should change?

Some reasons I wouldn't want to live in LOS permanently:

- As a farang you will always be an outsider.
- Arbitrary justice and police, no real democracy.
- Politically instable. (Numerous military dictatorships in
Ý the past decades)
- Lack of decent jobs (Not even mentioning salaries..)
- Lack of real culture (Art, Museum, Theater, Opera..)
- Climate - heat, humidity and rainy season
- Traffic in BKK, could not drive my roadster & bike here
- Serious relationships as difficult as anywhere else
- Thai people too materialistic, not open minded

Still I would like to try and live in BKK for a longer period (maybe several months) to check out if these first hand impressions are really true... Maybe in a couple of years...

Until then, I consider it as a 1st class holiday & party destination and as a hideway to relax from the Feminazis, ugly and brash girls and all the other bullshit that bothers me at home.

Cheers,
Fritz

You are right Fritz, LOS is just so over the top that everything else just pales next to it. I have been going to LOS for the last four years the first couple of years it was twice a year I am up to four times a year now.

I don't think my bank balance can handle it anymore.

even with a low paid job it might be cheaper fro me to reside there.
