BigD, Yeah, and the sad part is, I don't think my TGF has an inkling of what these new regs may mean for us. She was dutifully saving newspaper clippings of houses for sale etc, in the hope that when she gets her GED next year, everything will end happily ever after. She surprised me with these when I was in BKK a couple of weeks ago, and we lay in bed talking about our future happy as clams. Kinda tugs at my heart. She assumes that since I am smart, not yet bankrupt (knock on wood), and have not yet let her down I can overcome all obstacles. I hope so too, but now I am beginning to wonder, as I am most assuredly not almighty ... - Balls

Mr. Smegma........I think that filling in the blanks in your mind is probably an all day job requiring someone of a higher level of intelligence than me, but I love a challenge...... (Sorry Mr. Smegma, I cannot believe I just said that! Can you?) Australia? I could have chosen Holland or Germany or various counties in Nevada etc., and maybe I should have because Australia is only following others in this case. But the idea is valid. Societies change and with that change comes the acceptance of what previously was thought of as 'unthinkable'. Simple point. #2 Yeh I agree. I blow this by people here in China all the time. What the hell is a Westerner anyway? Well in most Asian cultures, a Westerner is 'them' not 'us'. Peruvians are a 'those' I think, so they don't enter into the conversation. Meese, first name Edward if memory serves. Well the mid-west is peculiar for a particular reason. No damn water. Sky, earth and ....well they do not have the water part of the equation which of course affects their thinking. Womens breasts there are protected from too much exposure because they contain a vital source of moisture. But I thought you knew all this stuff? The American system of cultural distribution is vastly superior (not content) than any other country. Since there is a great deal of multicultural representation in American movies, races, creeds and colors and such, that representation becomes the standard for what most Asians view as 'Western'. They in truth know as little about us as we know about them. Nice talking to ya Mr. Smegma!

But seriously.......it is actually the Thai people who know you and your family who would be more effective in positively affecting the government. Support from a native national is always better than support from an expat in the process of indicating your usefulness and positivity for the country in question

FastM, Nice hearing from you. Thanks for confirming that the name was Meese and his first name Edward. I think memory serves you right, and I would venture to agree with you. I did think he was actually called Ed. But not being 100% sure, I decided to leave it out at the time and only use the last name. However, besides confirming his name, I find little of substance as a reply to my post. I did like you previous post more, even though I had an issue with those 2 things that I chose to nitpick. You seem to be undecided on the tone of your post. Agree? Refute? Expand? ... perhaps even a shy attempt at humor? Anyway, thanks for being kind to reply and for the effort put in trying to elaborate further.

Some pretty astute observations about the P4P scene in Thailand, Mr. fastmover. Like you said, there's an entire parallel economy built on it, that fuels the livelihood of so many. I wonder if the thai government has fully thought through the consequences, if and when they succeed in wiping out the P4P industry entirely. It is made up mainly of millions, men and women, who cant find work in the rural areas and flock to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket etc. to seek a better life. Once there they realise they cant do much except join the flesh trade/bar trade/tourism trade/hotel trade, whatever. Trades that are largely flourishing because of tourists drawn to the lure of relatively cheaper sex. Question is does the thai government have a plan to resettle all these soon-to-be unemployed folks and provide alternate economic opportunities for them? Where are they going to go? The government currently appears to be playing the moral card to back all their crackdowns but it remains to be seen if the people can fill their stomachs with morals 3 times a day.

Mr. Smegma.....I know I know, but if I start filling in the blanks in the quotations that you provide, I will end up discussing what you think I think instead of what I think you are thinking about what I think. And that of course, as we know, is unthinkable. On the other hand I do 'feel' that my comments are generalisations that can be expanded in meaning relative to your own mental desire to understand how they apply to you as an individual. B.S. has that wonderful quality doesn't it? Cheers guy!

Mr JHolmesJr.......rightly stated! I wonder how the Thai government will like all those thousands of BG's loitering in front of the 5star hotels, malls, and tourist attractions. Maybe a 100 fold increase over what exists now. In addition is the extra cost of policing/court time/jailing and if they have even thought about it, rehabilitating ex- street walkers. Proved not too successful even by rich Western nations. In truth the ranks of street society do not figure very prominently in the minds of politicians anywhere. They are viewed as liabilities. You so not see many 'Send a BG to University' campaigns in any country. Another thing that will rear its ugly head in major form is PIMPS. If the street is the marketplace then you can be sure individuals and the gangs that form the powerbase will organize the streets for their benefit, possibly (for sure) aided by local enforcement authorities. That is a whole other industry. Once in....never out.

Quote: from fastmover on 5:28 pm on Sep. 5, 2003 Mr hzink.....Read it as if I agree with you, but did not feel I had to say that since it is obvious that we are saying the same thing, just using different words and I give a different reason why I agree with you.
s'cool, and no ill intention meant - I was just confused as it appeared as if you first disagreed, only to agree with me - but now it's obvious that you in fact agreed, while only seeming to disagree.... or something to that effect
Quote: from fastmover on 5:28 pm on Sep. 5, 2003 The third quote. ÝMy imaginary city is NOT Las Vegas at all.
It couldn't be, since it fits the example
Quote: from fastmover on 5:28 pm on Sep. 5, 2003 I wonder how Americans would feel about foreign toursists jetting in to sample the P4P scene in Washington D.C. with thousands of expats dodging the visa process in order to extend their visit and live out the dream of unlimited (and cheap) pussy.
The sad part is that once it becomes profitable for the country to do so, it might even by gov't subsidized... I have little hope of the US 'moral state' every 'getting it', or being able to make a proper decision when it comes to matters of profit. That being said, it's one of the qualities I absolutely love about America - complaining about foreigners owning more and more of the country, while at the same time cashing out and selling it Nevertheless, your point is not lost on my, Mr. Fastmover, as I'm just being facetious.
Quote: from fastmover on 5:28 pm on Sep. 5, 2003 But you address me as 'Mr. Alan' so maybe you are not sure who you agree or disagree with.
You know, confusion runs in my family...

WOW! That is a lot. Are you sure? Thailand's labor force is estimated at around 33 million people. Of which 54% are engaged in agriculture and 15% in industry. That leaves only 31% (about 10 million people) in the services sector. If you say "millions" in plural, I guess the minimum number would be 2. This would mean 20% of those in the service sector are working in p4p related matters. WOW!! They must hide well, because each day, I see more taxi drivers, waiters, shop sales staff, sales people, etc. than I see people in p4p. A serious study by a fellow named Steven Erlanger estimated at 450,000 the number of men daily visiting p4p related businesses in Thailand. Another study puts the "actual" sexworkers as 65% of the total work force involved in p4p -the rest being support staff (mamas&papas, cleaners, waiters, cashiers, parking valets, security guards, etc.). If no woman ever serviced more than one man per day -very unlikely. The total number of workers engaged each day would be under 700,000. If on average we say each woman services 2 clients (some lucky ones like Saeng Barons certainly push the average up) ...then the number of people making a living from the p4p business are cut to under 350,000. JHolmes, are you sure of your figure of several millions? Where do you get it from?
