Study may be one idea but the fact of the matter is there is a problem obtaining the visa to stay in Thailand. I have considered moving here also but don't want to have lie or constantly live with the fear of being refused a visa. Take a look the Phillipines, stay 1 year without having to leave the country.

it's all about money any more. err, it always was, wasn't it if you can show that you've enough cash, you can get the visa. being retirement age works if you have 800k (Baht) in the bank but unfortunately w/o a job (sponsor) or Thai family you're w/o many options, again an issue of even Bigger money Special investments can get you long term visas. Buy an expensive condo or start a business worth at least 1mill Baht and with at least 7 Thai workers. If you can't do any of those, you'll arrive as a tourist, and tourists (with Tourist Visas) are like ghosts, can't even get a driver's license or open a bank account.

the PI is willing to wait to get the money in your expenditures over time (within the local economy) LOS used to think that way, but after all the vagrant cheap charlies started compiling in PTTY they figured they'd better make sure you had the money up front... if you can't afford the fees etc, they don't really want you there being another drain on the economy.

Please expalin to me how anyone who comes to Thailand and brings money from overseas to spend into the local economy (no matter how little) is a drain on the Thai economy ?? Do we get free healthcare ?? Do we cet free municipal facilities ?? Do we get free eduction ?? Do we get anything we dont pay for ?? While the argument that immigrants to 1st world countries is possible due to the social security halthcare and infrastructure benefits people automatically recieve that simply does not apply. Any foriegn exchange is a direct benefit to the Thai economy.

they consider the low-class cheap-charlies a drain... they want to upgrade the class of people that hang around. not my logic... their's and it does happen where a bloke will fall ill and then be supported by locals until he finally dies even some hospitals take in the sick, dying retiree do you think they're going to throw him in a dumpster out back when he can't pay his hospital bill ??

Having had bitter first hand experience with my first wife and hospitals then yes I do think unless you can pay for a private hospital of qualify for the 30 baht medical care (joke.. If you gte to see the back of a doctor run past once a day then you are very lucky) then yes.. They simply turn you out of the the place. My Grandfather in law was simply left to die at home with no medical care or even morphine / pain relief. I could tell you some horror stories about the way they handled my wifes setup and her death but it still is too painful to commit to words and this forum.

yes, i've seen accident victims die when they could not produce insurance documents or cash... but the truth is, even the facilities are booked & charged during this time of course they don't throw you in a dumpster, but they basically wait for you to die sometimes, and like you said, best part of a doctor you'll see is his back as he's zooming by. however, the room that a person died in was booked at a cost i know, exceptionally cold-hearted, but that's the way accounting works. so they can claim that xxx amounts of foreigners cost them money on unpaid hospital expenses...

New site on phuketgazette.com take a look. You can go out 3 times and come back as long you have enough money in the wallets. Its always like this in Thailand if you do not like that answer change until you get the right one.
