Arcadius, re: the gazillions of stamps in the passport problem: my last passport was so full of entry-exit stamps that when I came back in via Vientienne, the border guard pretended to be having trouble finding what he was looking for. The guy in front of me had just slipped him a few Baht, and he was fishing for a bribe. So I just played the dumb Amerikan and smiled. When he persisted, I smiled again and said, "Mai kao jai, khup!" This startled him, so he looked up, wondering who the f_ck I really was (had my CIA sunglasses and safari shirt on at the time), stamped the damn thing, and then muttered "mai kao jai" under his breath as he grudgingly handed me my passport. I gave him a big smile and "kahp koon mahk khup!"
My TGF, her uncle, and her grandpa were waiting on the Thai side, wondering what was taking so long (my TGF had crossed back into Thailand ahead of me). Her grandpa looked a bit miffed that the guard had tried to shake me down. I just said, "mai bpen lai!" and we headed south to their village.

I overstayed for 62 days. Went 2 days ago to Cambodia. At border no one gave me a second thought. Just had to pay the fine.
After reading this thread, I spoke to my friend in Phuket because he overstayed 12 days. He went to visa office there, and talked to thai man he knows there well. The official said that as long as police dont pick you up for doin 'something bad', then you aint got a problem.
I been here 10 months now, and overstayed plenty of times. I got a total of 5 tickets (bribes) for throwing cigs on sukhmuvit (yeh I dont learn). When they ask for passport (1 time out of 5), they saw visa was overstayed, so asked me an extra 1000 baht (overstay visa fine). bahhhh
Moral of the story is, if you give money to police, you can pretty much do what ever the hell you want.

basic rule is you can overstay but do not be anywhere
you risk getting your passport checked unless you have
a wad of greenback at the ready.this means most bars and bkk busstation also watch they do not slip j##b#
into your pocket as well cause if you are skint it will be a long time before you eying any cutties on suk. just don;t do it they love it to get a farang in this situation

Does anybody know what happens to those who have an overstay of 10 month and more? If they are not catched by the police and just want to leave the country at Don Muang Airport. There is a 200 Baht per day fine at a maximum of 20000 Baht. Is that all or are there any more fines and charges?

Dear Tommy........ get used to it because this is how the letters over the next 2 to 3 years will start.
If I was in your dire straits, I would go to the Burma border and sneak over. You can pay locals to take you through the jungle for 5000b. They may ask you to carry some bags to look like you are an adventure traveller, but you will be fine.
Once you reach civilisation, the bus to the city is only 12 hours and you can fly to wherever you want.
