Where is Deby by the way, Manchester probably, anyway, that is why I dont like white chicks in here, they come in all full of hot air and piss in the corner, leave their rags around and upset the balance in here and then wooosh, disappear, what the use of them. Upon sign up for this site, it should ask if male or female and then ban for life all females.

you couldn't be more wrong. but have it your way.

according to my information she is banned from access to the main forum (thanks to the IT lady at her multinational oil company).

anyway she might be over in LOS soon, so you could meet her.

Many of the generalisations made about the business environment in Thailand within this thread are extremely misleading.

(It is pretty obvious that anyone thinking they can come to Thailand to have a good time and simultaneously set up and run a successful business will almost certainly fail and be ripped off.... but that must be the case in any country)

However, Thailand has a long history of foreign businessmen and businesses being extremely successful here. Certainly a huge percentage of the country's wealth is either in the hands of Chinese/Thai Chinese (Banking, trading) or Indians/Thai Indians (property, trading). Such a high percentage that it is surprising that there is not more resentment than from Thais.

Moreover, the size of foreign direct investment in Thailand over the past 20 years - the car industry and electronics for instance - clearly shows that foreign multinationals have found that Thailand is profitable and attractive place to do business.

Look at just about any business - manufacturing, retail, hotels, restaurants - and you will find that foreign companies either dominate or play a very large role in that industry.

There is a lot of unnecessary paperwork and red tape, there is a lot of corruption (although I tend to feel you get your money's worth). On the other hand, I think Thailand has many advantages as a place to do business. Many local companies are disorganised and inefficient (providing opportunity), overheads are low, Thai employees are low cost, hard working and loyal (IMHO) and the underlying macroeconomic and demographic trends provide a strong platform to grow and build a business.

Personally, I think anyone who comes here to set up a bar or restaurant needs there head examined but there you go. However, to extend these experiences to generalise about the underlying business environment is certainly misleading, and in my view, totally wrong.

(OK so a few flames are justified for being boring and pompous.)

Let me see what the first piece of advice from the Thai cartel would be...Hmm, Buy multiple cell phones because you are going to lose them here or better yet make you first target customer a cell phone compnay so you can get a discount when you need to buy new ones.

A great business idea tracking devices to locate your misplaced cell phone

I can loose my phones whenever and wherever I want. but wait a minute I didn't loose so many. just 2 in december.

the cell phone company was purely coincidential. but a welcome synergy.

but despite all, I bought shinewat.

Playing the safe way....& doing business in Thailand....
After having burnt my arse during the first "serious" experience in Thailand, I literally runway from Bangkok back to the old Europe.....one year of meditation and rebuidling of capitals.....then back to Thailand in search of revenge.....kinda die hard!
So, after having spent 1 1/2 year looking around, listening, learning and making other experiences, I decided to take the safe way.....i.e. a position in a reputable Company with a monthly wage: add this to a wife with a very good salary and social background and a good couple of friends always travelling Europe/Asia who become my partners in the Company I have registered.....and so here I am now enjoying a satisfying life and building up a fortune in Thailand....
BUT, I always keep a low profile and I leave my wife to take care of "the face" of our Company.....safe it's better than sorry!
Finally, yes, man can make a good living in Thailand - keeping the real profits offshore - and what it takes is only some commitment to the business (right NM?) and patiance TIT.....
the millioner in the making!
