On the issue of country image, imo what annoys the Thais more is not what the farangs view of Thailand may be. But what the obvious in your face p4p makes people from other Asian countries think of Thailand. I mean this on an ongoing basis and not only related to APEC.
P4P can -with a few exceptions- easily be found almost anywhere in Asia without any hush hush. Openly. No secrets about that. Look at Macau for example. But only in LOS and in Phils. you find that broad farang-in-your-face scenery that makes so many other Asians think of these 2 countries the way they do. IMO that is what is mostly annoying the Thais on a regular basis. Then add APEC ... and of course, you get what you get.
Anyway, I am sure the irony will be that during the APEC days, many bureaucrats coming here for the meetings will be asking their Thai counterparts for tips on places to go for p4p. Some will certainly even go together in groups, the same way we go when entertaining visitors. Of course, the top top top guys will not dream of being caught at any of the p4p places, but the mid level bureaucrats ... certainly many will go.

It will be interesting to see what evil the major networKs (ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX/CNN/BBC) will dig up on the P4P industry for the viewing public back home.
The best story would of course be catching foreign dignitaries soaking up some of the local culture via a soapy.
I am sure camera crews will be bumping into each other trying to capture the 'real' Bangkok. Anyone want to be famous for 15 minutes?
But of course it is easy to imagine Tom, Dick, and Harry (not their real names..I know the rules) watching T.V. at home saying to themselves,"Wow, lets go to Thailand!"
More farang on the way. Does it ever end?

Many mid-ranking bureaucrats will certainly make use of the local P4P facilities. How often does a mid-ranking bureaucrat get to have any fun?
More importantly, I think, BKK wiill be swarming with journos - many of whom will have fought tooth & nail to get to cover this boondangle. Pointless trying to 'hide' the scene from them. Even so, many will be wanting to combine a little personal R&R with subsidiary 'capital of sleaze' stories of the kind the Western media lap up. I can well understand why the Thais would want to tame things down a bit ahead of this assault (not that it will help them much with, say, the British tabloids which are quite capable of making up what they don't actually witness).

SARS, yeh that was a thrill. The only way I could get any pertinent news was by logging onto http://www.scmp.com
Huge amount of face saving done there with other peoples lives...worldwide. In the end the 'proved' they had told people by indicating an obscure article in a small town paper that stated maybe something was amiss.
Now that is really complicated...face saving the face saving used to save face.
It's nothing more than a mega discounting of the truth.

The Brit Tabs might not send anybody. Why bother?
At the level they fantasize reality is a waste of money.
Besides, England doesn't belong to APEC, so Mr. Bean, I mean Mr. Blair will not be arriving.
Locally, as long at the government guys can hold up some Western paper that says 'Government Cleans Up Expat Mess', everyone will be happy.
One other aside.....the Japanese will be in BBK in force so we might see a surge in prices for P4P that carries on for a few months after.

Your last post and only previous post on this thread was at 8:40pm on Sept . 4 when you told everyone you were going to speak or email your lawyer. ÝI hope the guy doesn't charge by the hour.
Now you want to pop back in and direct the thread 2 days later, demanding contributions. ÝOkay. Here goes.....
All forum members will be affected equally and without bias since the Thai government does hold any prejudice against forum members as long as they obey the pertinent laws as passed and held to be legal by the government of Thailand.
Now what exactly will your contribution to this thread be.
