Thanks for your answers. I was not quite sure about the 20000 baht fine, but it seems to be true. And Alifco I am not sure you were joking with your idea with the burma border, but I think the Junta would not be so happy to see me in Yangon without visa and entry stamp and entering the country and travelling to Yangon through an districted area. Did you try it already or know someone who did it?

I just returned to Thailand after a week up in the PRC. No problems on my return, even though I departed Don Muang having overstay my gtourist visa by 157 days.
Paid Baht 20,000. Not so much as a raised eyebrow. I no longer frequent places likely to be raided, and do not drive, so I am unlikely to be asked for my papers.
Still, a steady diet of monkey food and even the remote possibility of ending up a jail house play toy does give me pause for reconsidering this bad habit of overstaying I have developed.
