It's all a bit confusing. I wonder how the Immigration are going to control and measure how many days. Do we honestly think they are going to count up the dates in between your in and out stamps. What happens if you have four days left,is it up to you to leave when your time is up? Normally when arriving from overseas the check in at your country of origin checks to see if you have a valid visa before allowing you to board the plane. I don't think they have access to Thai records or will be counting the days spent in Thailand.

Not a problem for the airlines, To have a visa exemption you must have a return ticket. The airline will not check you in on a or one way ticket or the back half of a return ticket unless you can present a visa or a re-entry pass (United does this to me all the time when I return to Singapore). Therefore if you are refused entry you will spend some time in an Airport holding tank until the airline has a seat for you to fly out on. They will not lose any money.

Why not just get yourself a REAL visa, then none of this applies to you?

Dude, they have computers, and they work very well at figuring that out - trust me on that.

Computers yes of course..I should have thought of that. I've never thought much about it as my company sorts out my work permits and residence visa.. But saying that I didn't notice any computers when I came through Mae Sae the other week, although I didn't take too much notice.

Coming through any of the larger border crossings (i.e. Airports) you will see many of the shiny computing devices - and just by running your magnetic strip through it, the machine instantly know if you should be here, or not (or throws up alternate warnings if any red flags are raised). In my case, it caused some raised eyebrows when it flagged that I had used three different passports in the past 6 months, even though they all used different passport numbers, and technically had nothing connecting them, except for my name. Well, it instantly beeped - an explanation to the customs lady resolved the issue, but I would figure it would be equally easy for the computer to display how many cumulative days a given person has so far been inside the Kingdom. I would figure that the more porous border crossings (i.e. lower traffic ones) would slowly get upgraded, until they all have computers (or, if a Mark Karr snafu happens, I suspect it would happen faster)

Interesting experience this week. Since leaving Thailand I now return about once a month on business and stay between 1-4 days. Since October last year when the new regulations came into force I have made 6 trips totalling 19 days stay in BKK. On entering Thailand through Suvarnabhumi this week Immigration looked very closely at my stamps and it was only when I was in the taxi that I noticed they had given me 3 weeks instead of the usual 30 days. They had not highlighted the entry stamp (as they had done every other time since Oct 06) but had written in Thai underneath "last time". When I left the next day I queried why I had only been given 3 weeks stay and was told that I was only allowed to stay 90 days in a six month period and would now have to get a tourist visa to return. When I explained that I had stayed nowhere near the 90 days they reluctantly counted up (using a calculator) and agreed that I had only stayed 19 days and could return without a visa. However, I will be interested to see what happens when I go next month. I envisage with the words "last time" written in the passport I am going to get a hassle every time. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Guess their computers aren't all that great after all, eh, DaffyDuck... Should they "Get a Mac"? 555 Looks more like they're relying on the popular method of fingers and thumbs. At least it's decimal. Seems strange that they wouldn't have a program that could totalize the days for them.
